Bonus q - Give the drummer some.

7) I posted a link to this last week and it didn't get much attention, so I'll have another crack. Melodic, raw, vaguely shoegazey indie rock. Really good if you like that sort of thing. Demo here - http://icoulddietomorrow.blogspot.com/2009/06/weed-hounds-demo.html

it's the heat man. When it's hot, all you want to listen to is crushing distortion, grimy midrange garage and dirty funk riddims.
Additional notage:
3) Just A Souvenir is really quite weak. A few great tracks don't make up for the flatness of much of the rest of it. He's playing at making rock music, but seems to miss that bit of magic rock music needs to really get things going. It's more of an exercise than anything, and by ostensibly loosening himself up he seems to have made his most stilted album
4) the first 14 songs of 50,000 Fall Fans are absolutely brilliant. The rest.. not so much
8b) is Pat Metheny just Kenny G with a guitar? Probably
10c) I Would Die 4 U - what a song
The great tracks on that album are amazing (the first three, even the Blitzkrieg Bop one)
but I reckon the rest is fairly weak aye. Like the ones where he sounds like Lightning Bolt with none of the intensity. And those little short tracks are totally pointless. Howevar when I saw him play all of those songs live it was incredible. Much rocking/energy then.
i like the little short ones (like the last few)
it's just the "rocking out" ones i don't particularly care for - you're right, there's no intensity there at all. I bet they'd sound amazing live though..

6. my friend told me an awesome story about damo suzuki and it got me listening to tago mago. Aumgn made me feel a little ill.
7a. Just badly tagged spotify tracks. Really just the Lemuria side of Your Livingroom's All Over Me. I haven't listened to Kind of Like Spitting at all. I probably should.
9a. I'm really scared I won't be able to see him in Glasgow because I'll be working in Edinburgh. I'll find a way though. I WILL FIND A WAY.
Lemuria are pretty good y'know.
oh and Zu = yeah!
I know you loves your JL, so you should like them too. Same mechanical surgical brutality to them.
Someone once told me the drummer can play in time and out of time all at once, 'cause he lives on the edge. I don't think I believe that person, because I'm pretty sure if it was true the world might have ended by now.
lemuria are fucking fantastic
more people should be made aware to this fact.
you're spot on with the zu/jl thing. i couldn't quite put my finger on it, but that's pretty concise. i think this is possibly the first band to feature a saxophone that i have genuinely enjoyed listening to. quite the feat.
I love it when he does that hand drumming thing on the sax
they're touring again in September I think. Go. They're fucking mental brilliant live as well. ZU! ZU! ZU!

7b) Canadian Inuk throat singer who adds modern experimental and pop flourishes to her music. Strange, but really good. She was one of the vocalists on Bjork's 'Medulla'.

4.a.) Unfortunately this has a woeful number of listens on Lastfm. "L.I.F.E" and "The Opening of the Cerebral Gate" are two of the best detroit/electro albums I've ever heard. Considering the history and that it was re-released on CD last year, I'm surprised.
9. Read that review of Foxbase Alpha that was linked on the Pitchfork retrospective of the album. I liked it.

Why did I think Hot Bone were that Darkness spinoff band?
they're actually pretty good. Definite give the drummer some material.
pretty good/the best thing ever
the way he plays his bassline bits so prefectly in sync with the drums whilst tapping like a bastard is mindwronging. it's growing ever more ridiculous that they're unsigned. the rhythm change halfway through Forest alone is worth a big money and hookers advance from some lucky record label.
