A prediction, ladies and gents: 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' is...
...going to, in the words of Alan Pardew, 'absolutely rape' the end of year lists. If the M83 album cleaned up around these parts last year, this should do very much the same (and be a better album while it's at it) this year.
It's so fucking good!

Phoenix
Come on, seriously
It's getting great comments on here
I can't wait to hear it.
S'all right.
It's not the second coming.
a month on
and having finally heard it. i concur. although i think the Manics will be the surprise top of the pops album.
when did they get so popular?!?!
Just saw their myspace they're playing Brixton Academy. Isn't that about 5,000 capacity?
I come here to make no predictions, I just come to say two things.
I have ever liked Phoenix. At all. This album though is fucking MIGHTY. I really, really, really like it.
That really is all. Really.
track four is quite good
I s'ppose
bought it at the weekend
am so far, 4 tracks in.
i love each and every minute of it... such a good album!
i was very happy to see it's now on spotify
as there have been a lot of good things said about it on here for the last month or 3.
I think track 2 (i forget the name) might be the best song they've ever done. But overall so far I still prefer 'It's Never Been Like That'
in case you missed my review on the frontpage today
http://drownedinsound.com/releases/14430/reviews/4136985
wow, iv been listening to these guys for the first time this morning on hype
after realising that my friend is off to see them tonight.. i like them.. 'Love like a Sunset' is brilliant..
I would check this out despite sean's comparison to Cut Copy putting me off slightly
the problem being that my spotify seems to have completely disappeared from my desktop. Weird :o
they dont sound like cut copy as such
but they share something thats for sure.
...
I've always liked Phoenix and I think the album is decent but it's missing that something for me
its a bit samey and goes down hill fast for me
I think I had heard bits n bobs of them before but not really noticed to much of them. It's alright but it kind of lacks a spark and a bit of fun for an indie pop dance album its all a little po faced and well... dull. dance music for dinner partys and sitting around.
First thing i thought was 'Cut Copy'.
Always a plus.
Sounds like they might even have bettered Alphabetical...
I concur the opinuion that the album seems to lose it's spark after the half way mark and the vocals are a tiny bit 'samey'.
All in all, it's a bad effort but I have to admit I prefer Passion Pit's 'Manners' at the moment as good collection of summer tunes.
As to the suggestion that it's better than 'Saturdays = Youth' - I certainly would not go that far.
I'm sorry, but I think it's way better
Love Like A Sunset is ridiculously good.
And the two singles alone elevate it above the M83 album, which is, don't get me wrong, a really good record.
I'm bumping this,
simply because I think I'm 100% right. Nothing better this year.
perhaps
not sure how many of the core dis staff concur but def in my top 3 of the year
It's 'alright'
but honestly....
There are "deeper" records, whatever that means
but this one just makes me happier than anything else I could put on from this year. So I'll have to agree.
Exactly
I'm pretty sure most of the lyrcis neither scan nor make sense. But for hooks, energy and uplifting sounds nothing's come close to this for a long while.
DIE AND SUCCEED!
I've only listened to it the once
But it seemed very good in a 'Oh look it's like that (admittedly awesome) Cut Copy LP' kinda way.
People comparing Phoenix to Cut Copy mystifies me
Mainly because Phoenix are ace on a plate and Cut Copy are a bit 'meh'
I might start saying 'ace on a plate' more often. I quite like the sound of it....
It's more that
they sound nothing like one another
NOT THE BEST.
The XX will clear up.
Love the album and thought they were great at the arches last week.
Lisztomania was my summer track this year, fucking love it.
ANOTHER ONE for the here today, gone tomorrow pile!!!
TRIPE ON PARADE, TRIPE ON A STICK, TRIPE ALOUD.
FUCKING JONAS BROTHERS WANNABES
what's with you people?
Since this is their fourth album and have been around for near on ten years
They're hardly 'here today gone tomorrow'
Absolute rubbish, Saint_Cronin
Sorry, but that is nonsense.
i dont think the album is that good but...
.. you can't just assume that every male pop band with bouncy guitar lines are here today gone tomorrow even if it happens to them the most, the main difference with this band is that they (as someone has already mentioned) they have been here for 10 years and it has taken a while to get this popular which shows that they probably will be semi permanent
It's a damn good pop record.
There's been way more interesting stuff this year though.
It's totally front loaded with the best tracks though.
And I don't like the way the 4th and 5th track totally ruin the flow of the album. Not that they're bad tracks, it's just that they don't seem to fit with the rest of the album.
Liszomania and 1901 though, words can't describe how fucking good those tracks are.
