FaltyDL - Love is a Liability [Planet Mu]
http://www.myspace.com/faltydl
I just got his album thruogh the post from the lovely peeps at Planet Mu (out in may) and its something else, so damn good.
It sounds like a mix of UK Garage, NY old skool house, Chicargo jackin house, detroit techno, electronica, wonky hip-hop (Simon Reynolds destroyed the word wonky and all its fun the bastard!), a little dubstep but probbily only in pase and bass.
If your a fan of Aphex Twin, EL-B, Boxcutter, Burial, Jammie Principle, Derrik May, Zomby, Hudson Mohawk, Rustie, Gemmy and anything on Planet Mu, Warp then its well worth checking out.

oooh sounds interesting...
hmmm im intrigued - not a fan of all of his work but its interestin i'll give him that. however ure lil round up of the album sounds proper good :)
Its very nice indeed
I think I've only heard his bits on Ramp Records before and now this.
Its starting to remind me a bit of UR now as well if they went a little more hip-hop haha
I have only had it today mind...
I can't see it lowing in my estimation anytime soon, its just brilliant.
Planet Mu have put up clips of all the tracks as usual
http://www.planet-mu.com/discography/ZIQ232
oh yeh didnt think to check that
sounds pretty good actually
in breif:
not sure bout human meadow as an openin track - dont really think its that strong but maybe its a grower
dionysos - arrr it should be stripped n then it would be a proper tuuuune jus the bass - haha maybe thats jus me n i guess that wouldnt really be his style n all
anxiety - :) very nice
so u got the full tracks yeh? i guess ill be checkin them out in may n i may change my mind about him
I got the promo yeah
cos I blog to much and the album pr guy at planet mu is a legend.
There are some real gems on it, I nearly put it on twice in a row but I've stopped myself and I'm putting on the new Boxcutter instead haha, its mu night in my house.
boxcutters back - how did i miss out on that????
arrr i think im gettin abit out of it these days haha
good to hear hes back wiv some new stuff - whats the verdict?
arecibo message - im liking im liking alot :)
yeah man its so good
easily up there with Glyphic!
which is an achievment in its self. I've had the album for a few weeks now and played it quite a bit. We are tryin to hook up an interview with him for the blog I work on sonic router. I still need to write some bits for that acctualy...
this is as good a place as any

The album is brilliant and he even has a mini album in the works for planet mu by the end of the year and another ep on ramp.
Bump!
Still brilliant, and he was even on Pitchfork the other day in the techno section. Its like P4k are acctualy listening to what Blackdown has been sayin on there for the last god knows how many years. Joker has even been featured a couple of times in the new tracks section as has Guido and Blue Daisy! The SR mix is brilliant too.
least they give blackdown a spot,
like that he's from ny, this sound, whatever it is, is spreading.
its spreading fast!
NY has been repping dubstep for ages with Dub Wars and Joe Nice doing there thing, not that this is dubstep mind its more like a starnge electronica/garage/wonk hybrid.
This album is a big favourite of mine...
Its awesome. Really awesome.
mine too
I keep going back to it more and more. He's got some wicked stuff lined up as well, yet another Ramp release the last one was awsome! Then a mini album for Planet Mu later in the year. I'm excited for it already. Oh and he gave away a track free its well dark and tasty...
http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2009/07/and-i-really-know
Along with martyn and clubroot...
This will probably be in my top 5 bass/dance albums at the end of the year. Its really warm sounding album, and generally awesome.
I need to grab Clubroot still
I think Silkie is at the top of mine right now but I just got it and I'm so excited about acctualy have The Horizon that track is insane! Martyn, FaltyDL, are easily up there too with Lukid and Harmonic 313, Roots of EL-B, Tectonic Plates Vol.2, Mordant Music & Shackleton not far away. Bass music is clearing up this year and thats only the albums the ep's and 12"s are something else.
Clubroot is really good, very burial-esque but great in its own right...
I just got the Silkie album, and haven't listened to it yet, but im leaving space to be blown away. Bass music has completely dominated my musical year, its far and away the most interesting scene in the uk at the moment.
there is alot of albums to come this year as well
I've heard Clubroot discribed as the perfect mix of Burial and Kryptic Minds, well KM album is on the way this year on Loefah's Swamp 81 label or I think its out this year, I hope it is. The Hyperdub compilation of old and new will be brilliant, I'm not even gonna think about the other albums hyperdub have in the works. Hell we haven't even had a dubstep allstars mix cd this year yet!
I've not even put my review of the album in this thread yet
http://thesonicminefeild.blogspot.com/2009/05/falty-dl-love-is-liability-planet-mu.html
Hijacked!
http://closebracket-openbracket.blogspot.com/2009/07/month-in-bass.html
Me own review, brief snippet as it is. I only just got round to getting it this month, more fool me as it's great. Really looking forward to getting Clubroot's album, his mix for Electronic Explorations is great.
I read that the other day
good stuff man. You can get teh Zomby Ramp EP on 12" right now on white label... kind of white the full artwork aint there yet but the 12"s themselves have colour labels. I couldn't wait 3 weeks or whatever it is I'll probibly get the full artwork cd. And that Hessel Audio Pearson Sound 12" is a beauty.
I bought Zomby on Chemical the other day
Should hopefully be arriving this morning along with some other new bits (new Kimbie and Floating Points) plus some Funky (Lil Silva and Apple, mmmmm). Cannae wait for them to arrive now, so psyched about the new Zomby. I was going to post in the other thread about it but I'm actually really impressed at the direction he's going with the stuff on the EP, I reckon I'll prefer it to the Hyperdub release.
He's got loads more coming out this year
a whole new album/mini album on Planet Mu and yet more Ramp stuff!
check this new track out for the Ramp 12"

The RA one is really really good
Bravery
The new mini album is maybe even better than Love Is A Liablity and I dont say that lightly as its probibly in my top 5 albums this year as it is. Its got a diffrent darker sound going on with it.
nope
12th October it drops, I'm just excited as I got it thru my door this morning and couldn't hold it in longer than an hour without shouting about it ;)
clips
http://www.planet-mu.com/discography/ZIQ244
Really?
I'm even more excited about the new one now...
yep
he's on fire
still loving the album and ep
Anyone heard the new All In The Place EP?
He properly sneaked it out with next to no fanfare at all. It's really nice, heading back towards an old school garage/Todd Edwards vibe, with quite a lot more housey stuff. The beats are mostly quite a lot less complex than the ones on the Bravery EP but it's got that same level of melodic sophistication.
I need to grab it still
its like £8 on vinyal I think, cos its an import so I've not stretched to grab it yet. He's done a killer remix of Eprom too.
The Eprom remix is great, got a proper old school breakbeaty feel to it, a bit Luke Vibert in places
His remix of XX's 'Islands' is great as well.
FACT review the new EP on Rush Hour
(It's bloody good by the way)
http://www.factmag.com/2010/03/19/faltydl-all-in-the-place-ep/
need to grab that
need lots more Rush Hour too quality label.
didnt this album come out last year? i had it back in October 2009
yes!
this thread is an old one from last april. Hell I've had the album for a year almost.
Amazing new FaltyDL sounds coming from Mu once again
Not one but TWO EPs - Scuba's been caning a few of these tracks recently, as a producer he's really going from strength to strength. His (relatively) recent remix of Mount Kimbie was also lovely.
http://www.factmag.com/2010/06/01/faltydl-readies-new-pair-of-eps-stream-them-now/
Oh, and while we're at it, his XLR8R mix from very recently. Beautiful garagey vibes, definitely a necessity for anyone who's looking to check out his music, plus he's an excellent DJ anyway so gettit. There's a few of his new tracks on here for previewin' purposes as well.
http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2010/05/faltydl
The new Ital Tek album on Mu's nice as well
As is the ever-so-slightly cheesy, Weather Report-esque boogie house of Oriol, which is coming out next month or thereabouts. Kinda like Floating Points if he was riding through GTA: Vice City on a massive chopper, complete with obligatory palm trees and deep orange sunset. Sounds a bit out of place in my pokey little room though...
New FaltyDL EP on Tempa!
Sounding lovely thus far
http://soundcloud.com/faltydl/sunday
Man's mad prolific.
Tempa!
Thats a good look, didn't expect that hook up. It's 'Forthcoming Tempa Allstars' one of those double EPs with loads of peeps on again I take it...
This tune is sounding good, sounds like the most UR he's been yet haha
Yeah I know
Bodes well, I feel :)
The Phrequaflex EP is awesome
Probably my favourite thing he's done since Bravery - it's a little darker and more experimental, but really sumptuous to listen to, seriously immersive business.
ordered love is a liability the other day
just waiting for it to arrive....
this guy is so prolific though! what is that - 4 releases in the last year?
Yeah, loads
This year alone he's had the All In The Place EP, remixes for Mount Kimbie, Epron, Oriol, Ital Tek and probably more that I can't remember, upcoming two EPs on Mu (Phrequaflex and one more), plus an album later this year.
Last year was LIAL, Bravery, To London, Party, and a load of remixes I think.
Mad prolific, and it's all brilliant. Hell of a track record this far...
My friends will always say
I saw you recommend it in a different thread the other day and just jesus that is such a great pop song. Something's finally knocked Human Meadow off my favourite's by him...
Yeah it's great huh?
The guy can do no wrong really, you heard his Ital Tek remix?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Hp_hDIg9PE
One of my favourite tracks of the year so far, massively underrated. Gorgeous, moody garage.
Yeah I picked it up on boomkat t'other day
I'm not a huge fan of ital tek but I just got it for falty pretty much.
You aint wrong!
http://www.planet.mu/discography/ZIQ277
He really goes in here, its got the most crisp dancy garage beats I've heard from him yet.
no idea how he manages it
but he just keeps getting better
cool little Vladislav Delay/Sistol remix
http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/review/download-of-the-week-sistol-kotka-faltydl-refunk/
That sounds like a match made in heaven
For anyone not already destroyed by my massive spamming of the boards, I also interviewed him for DiS the other day...
http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4140732
New album WOO
Announced on Twitter, the snippets sound lovely and it's apparently moving further away from the dubstep/UKG sound of the first album. Cannot wait, he's one of the most exciting producers in dance music at the moment, imho.
cant wait
he seems to just get better and better
thanks for the reminder, will be getting in amongst this :D
I meant to say
Snippets are here
http://www.planet.mu/discography/ZIQ286
not again....
Hi Blancmange!
I listened to all The Oasis albums, what next?
Do you have a proper haircut? Mine fell out...
but i shaved my dog & stuck the hair on my head & now i look a bit like Liam! Cool, right?!
PROPER SHOES
I know exactly what you mean
It's so hard to find people these days who appreciate the subtle, redemptive power of pure, unsullied RAWK
get a life, seriously.
Read a book or something. I'm currently reading, "A Kestral For A Knave". I'm sure it'll remind you of your youth.
^we should all definitiely listen to this wise and prolific long time poster
over and above the likes of these newcomers jimi and dis-integration.
JFC.
Oh sorry Kik
You're from Lancashire aren't you. I can't think of anything good from Lancashire at the moment. Its a bit grim really, isn't it?
New FaltyDL on the way from Ramp with a Jamie XX remix on the flip
Sounds cool.
Original

Jamie XX Remix
http://soundcloud.com/ramprecordings/faltydl-hip-love-jamie-xx-remix
Prob my fave Jamie XX bit so far.
woop good timing
http://www.sonicrouter.com/2011/01/recommended-faltydl-hip-lovejamie-xx.html
Was just about to post this ;)
it really is an impressive 12"
Jamie's wobbles where a bit much at first but they really get rolling and melt into the rest of the track by the end. Plus the original is just too good, mad rolling breaks... Plus that wicked agressive EQing at the start taking out all the bass and mid works a treat.
is a very interesting version
but I still prefer the original beats.
Free remix from FaltyDL
Heard Loafah drop it on the boiler room last night its ace.
http://www.self-titledmag.com/home/2011/02/01/download-this-now-kotchy-getaway-faltydl-remix/
I totaly forgot he has a Non Plus+ on the way too or at least I think he does...
TEETH - Shawty (FaltyDL Remix) [502]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3oaGC2Fihw
Forthcoming on Oneman's label 502, sounding fresh.
Falty keeps bringing it, always impressive.
oh my
http://pitchfork.com/tv/#/music-videos/1489-faltydl/2330-you-stand-uncertain/
yep new album
http://www.planet.mu/discography/ZIQ286
I think he just keeps gettin better and I've thought he's always been ace.
yeah
Bravery is maybe my fave of his alongside Endeavour and Phrequaflex.
Rory geeks out about FaltyDL

I'd almost forgot he had a Swamp 81 12" on the way, they sound amazing from the clips: http://boomkat.com/vinyl/392769-falty-dl-mean-streets-part-one
Falty update (basically an excuse to post about just how much i LOVE this guy's music)
He's got a new 12" out this month on All City which is really, really special.
Here's one of the traxx
http://soundcloud.com/faltydl/make-it-difficult-for-you
oo very nice
I can't stop playing his Swamp 81 12" its amazing.
He's also very good in re-creation of 90's house classics

anyone heard the new album?
yeaaah it good right?
love the first few tracks especially, and the one with Ed from FF is well nice
yeah agreed on first half, love 'uncea'
kind of loses me a bit in the second half. she sleeps is addictive, would love to see it picking up some radio play
Not heard it yet
couldn't get into You Stand Uncertain or many of the singles since bar the one on Swamp81 so haven't been that fussed. Plus this is on Ninja Tune and they're hardly ever any good these days/decades bar The Bug and ummm the odd single and hopefully the new WerkDiscs hookup.
Really like it
