the latitude headliners
nick cave & the bad seeds on friday
grace jones on saturday
pet shop boys on sunday
really fucking gutted apart from saturday and sunday. pet shop boys - just no, and grace jones headlining? she headlined fucking Secret Garden Party last year, she hasn't quadrupled her fanbase in that time has she? obv NC&TBS will be amazing and i am seriously considering only going for that day. what happened to the amazing booking of latitude, letting antony & the jonsons headline in 2006 or Sigur Ros in 2008?

Well, that's worth £20 on top of last year
*pause*
Oh, wait, no it isn't. I can only think they've decided the people who went last year were too young a profile.
people always tell me
this festival isn't just about the music...just as well looking at this! Pet Shop Boys! Arghhh! Run away!
You're kidding?
Fucking hell the undercard better be AMAZING to make up for that. Is this definite? Bleh.
This will be incredible
Genuinely amazingly incredible.
Nick cave is incredible live and the pet shop boys are even better.
Don't know much about grace jones other than that she's batshit crazy, but my scouts on the ground at the secret garden party last year tell me she was the best thing they've ever seen.
It's fair to say I'm excited.
liven up
pet shops boys and grace jones would be great,
what do you want? elbow?
grace jones would be ace
but she's not a mainstage headliner at all. as an uncut headliner, i would be pleased, but playing to 20,000 people.. just no.
...
she's probably the biggest artist on there.
She's way bigger than Antony & the Jonsons for starters.
also, Sigur Ros can suck my left one
Latitude isn't one of those festivals I'd head to, but this seems a perfectly reasonable/good line up for who it caters for.
Whilst I'm not wowed
they all sound a damn sight more interesting than Interpol last year.
Oh, And everyone I know who's seen Grace Jones has said she's amazing live
Is this for certain?
Disappointing.. apart from Nick Cave
Seriously
last year, Franz Ferdinand were disappointing live, completely going through the motions (and I've seen them since and loved them) and Interpol were just dull as a dull thing.
Admittedly Sigur Ros were incredible though
But the point I'm trying to make here, is that the whole thing was incredible despite the headliners.
Anyway, I don't know about Nick Cave or Grace Jones, but the Pet Shop Boys should be brilliant!
I suspect
my gut reaction disappointment was more to do with it being my first one plus the fact Sonic Youth's name had been kicked about as a rumoured headliner over the last couple of months. I'd actually quite fancy seeing the PSBs live.
the worst
was the good the bad and the queen. they really sucked the life out of me. truly, truly awful. mind you i didn't like the album much to begin with :)
apart from Nick Cave,
that is seriously disappointing.
I hope its a mistake on uncuts part, Grace jones headlining the uncut arena fair enough, but mainstage!?...
It's unlikely it's a mistake, isn't it?
It's the magazine of one of the sponsors and it's supposed to go on sale a couple of days after the announcement (the subscribers' version goes out early)
I have a copy in my hands
and it's definitely the above three.
Pet Shop Boys and Grace Jones will put on a HELL of a show. PSBs are known to spunk tonnes of money on an amazing stage set, plus they have the tunes to back it up.
when i wrote this
i was in a pretty bad mood anyway but im warming to the idea, and I still don't think Grace Jones will be headlining but still, i'm pretty disappointed. let's hope that the Uncut Arena has some amazing headliners on sat & sun.
I think this is one of the festivals where people declaim loudly about the headliners
...who, in the event, end up winning everyone over. Plus, Latitude does attract a lot of 30-something middle class types who will love this line-up.
Last year I loved all 3 headliners
before I went so was extremely excited from the word go.
This year only Nick cave excites me...
who is nick cave?
Is this a reference to that thread
talking about how everyone really should know who nick cave is?
possibly
And sure enough, on the Latitude thread on the eFestivals forum
"what is nick cave? is he any good? what sort of music?"
THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST TAUNTING ME NOW. (Although 'what' is probably more accurate than 'who')
hahaha
what the fecking bollecks!?
where are sonic youth? what is nick cave? is he any good? what sort of music?
if that is the line up i am moderately dissapointed, but they have good people on the smaller stages.
i really hope there are some changes!
maybe sungubala is crystal castles? i bloody hope so!
how does someone know who sonic youth are but not nick cave & the bad seeds?
"Only Crystal Castles can save us from the menace of people I've never heard of now!"
Perhaps we should be grateful he's not got caught up in the sungubala thing, which I couldn't care less about as he's clearly not in any important band, but just the fact that he's following Latitude, which in its set-up suggests an awareness of the arts and that Nick Cave sort of big cult artist (same category as Grace Jones, I'd contend), suggests there's a major hole in his knowledge.
but sigur ros are shit lolz
Not terribly impressed to be honest
Still gonna go though. The headliners tend to be a bit of a fuzzy blur for me anyway after a day of steady swilling. I hope the pet shop boys bring sexy dancers n that.
Okay, some thoughts
- I have heard that all three headliners are incredible live. However, I'll only see any of them if there's nothing else on during the headline slot. This is good in a way, keep my options open and hopefully the Uncut Tent headliners are amazing. I don't think I've ever seen more than 1 main headliner at a festival before anyway so this isn't a big surprise.
- Latitude really is about more than the headliners. I said after last year that I'd go no matter who was on the line-up, and this still stands. I've got my ticket anyway.
- The other bands that play could be amazing, and there are guarantee to be some gems in there.
- Pet Shop Boys and Grace Jones both attract, uhm, a certain sort. It's possible that these two artists could buy up a massive amount of tickets, and the punters that buy them could be the sort to only watch those two acts, freeing up space in other stages. Clutching at straws? Either way the Cabaret tent will be rammed.
- I am a bit annoyed at Pet Shop Boys because I bet they cost an absolute bomb.
i think this is awesome
I probably wont be able to go anyway though
These headliners are amazing
utter yuck.
no thanx
how quickly does everyone think the tickets will sell out?
Sold out first week in June last year, it says here
Tickets went on sale roughly the same time.
What a load of shit
can't believe I was stupid enough to buy an early bird ticket
I had a great time last year
and was tempted by this year, but that is the worst headline bookings of any festival I can remember! Nick Cave sure, he's good, but he was their last year, as griderman of course, but still.
I knew the headliners would fail in comparison to last years selection
why oh why didn't I go last year, even though I had no-one to go with I should've found a way :(
Aww man that sucks,
I mean not that I could afford to go this year anyway, but I was hopeful. Last year was so good!
If this was 1986, I'd probably be cumming in my pants at this breaking news.
Sadly it's 2009, so Kleenex won't be taking my money tonight.
I'm not going to this, but people moaning about Nick Cave and Pet Shop Boys headlining?!
What the hell is wrong with you people? Jesus christ.
compared to last years headliners
they are utterly shit
Who was last year? Franz Ferdinand, Interpol and Sigur Ros?
The first is hardly an original festival headline choice, and the third might be the world's most tedious band. Actually, you can take out that 'might'. Interpol I'll give you, but I'm not sure that compared to Interpol, either of these three bands for this year are 'utterly shit'.
People moaning about a festival like Latitude, which as far as I'm aware is about more than dull indie rock and encourages things like poetry tents and more 'arty' things, having headliners that actually veer a tad from the indie rock blueprint is bonkers. This is like the Jay-Z thing last year. Stupid.
That, and Pet Shop Boys are actually the best band ever.
It's telling
that the PSBs are the one out of the three that most people (not me, I'm quite looking forward to that now) are upset with.
This ^ sums things up very well I think
Although I personally am not a fan of Grace Jones, I can certainly see her value (along with Cave and the PSBs) in making up an interesting festival headliners list. Would certainly rather check out any of these than perenial headliners such as Kings of Leon, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand and so on.
For essentially a more'cultured' festival than most, Latitude seems to still attract a minority of small minded types. There is someone genuinley posting on the official forum with concerns that PSB and Grace Jones will lead to an influx of "a certain type" of music fans. Wander which "type" that might be?!
Some people...!
the official boards are mad at the moment
normal users: the lineup is strange
admin: if you don't like it, go elsewhere!
normal users: but surely you agree that they're quite surprising
admin: well, i like it
etc etc etc
Yup, pretty much
Such is the internet that these conversations will continue ad finitum until the official announcements are made tomorrow at 7. I would have some level of disdain but I have been reading it at certain points all day so I consider my voyeurism of posts even worse!
I imagine some of the other acts playing being announced tomorrow will calm some people down (so long as its not Kajagoogoo, Yazoo, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet.....)
While it's unwise to assume message board users are a festival's whole constituency
people involved with the festival are never going to budge. It's not as if Latitude forces everyone to watch the headliners either.
I wonder how much of this is driven by this modern desire to have the headliners leaked ahead of the official announcement? If you've been banking everything on Sonic Youth, as one of the leading rumours was, and then are presented with Grace Jones you're going to feel like you've been personally let down even if there'd been no suggestion beyond vague festival hints that SY would be coming over.
Yes I would think so too
Everybody is absolutely obsessed with having their music first and fastest (be that releases or line-up information). As with all things of this nature though, it is perhaps the greed of the industry which has led to this desire of line-ups to ensure money is not being wasted. Like CD prices up to the era of downloading, will we soon be questioning paying £150 to sit in a field? How things pan out will depend on how well live music figures do in the next decade I imagine.
Interesting times!
link
please
Infinatly more interesting then last years headliners
want to go
Interpol are shit live and I heard Franz were dissapoinng, Sigu Ros could be the trump but late at night at a festival I want to have some FUCKING fun, this should do the trick.
that's one more headliner than i wanted to see last year
so that's nice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgMn2OJmx3w
I can't work out if this is really really good, or fucking awful!
The Pet Shop Boys and Nick Cave are both good news! Festivals are always about the quality of bands as a whole, which get announced tomorrow, oui?
those three have a ton of hits and know how to headline a festival
plus they are all prety much amazing
A FESTIVAL headliner should have a ton of stuff everyone knows
and put on an awesome show
hence
triple score to lattitude
or mebbe it should have been fleet foxes white lies and the decemberists?
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
pet shop boy have some (s)hits yes...
but the other two, no.
New bands announced on Radio 1!
BAT FOR LASHES
DOVES
EDITORS
This has cheered me up no end :D Doves are great live, as are Bat For Lashes. Never seen Editors.
on last fm...
this is the order of plays
(most) Editors, Doves, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Pet Shop Boys, Bat for Lashes, Grace Jones (least). Will be interesting to see who actually headlines..
Well the BBC said that the newest three weren't headliners..
I expect Uncut have got it right. But that's cool, the Uncut tent headliners could be great, we'll have to wait and see.
nah
it'll obviously be
friday: Editors (mainstream indie night)
saturday: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
sunday: Pet Shop Boys
good announcement anyway.
Hang on
Uncut isn't due out in shops until later this week. Why would they - Latitude part-sponsors - state those headliners if events were going to prove them wrong?
maybe they just made a mistake
or got their wires mixed.
I dunno
The fact these names haven't been confirmed despite the administrators pretty much acknowledging them on the official board, and the careful wording of that BBC report, suggests they're not just going to drop them in in passing.
S'pose we'll find out in two and a half hours (and there's another issue I've been pondering if it is true, but I'll come back to that) I'm glad Doves and BFL will be there, anyway.
Unlikely
If Editors are playing Grace Jones won't headline
They're huge. She's not.
Saw her at Bestival and Roundhouse. Great. But not a Headline act.
Editors will sell tickets.
This is a festival headlined by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and the Pet Shop Boys
One of the best cult bands of the last twenty years and one of the best pop bands of the last twenty years.
It's utterly beyond me how the shitting fuck anybody could see this as a bad thing. I quite fancy going now.
^^^this
psbs and the nick caves are two of the best bands i've ever seen, ever ever ever
and i'm pissed off that i can't go to this :(
All they've announced tonight is the three headliners!
Well, and a load of poets and stuff... but still, URGH.
Seems they've just forgotten the rest
Three others have already been confirmed by Radio 1! Not even eFestivals knows what's going on.
(Alright, there's a load of theatre and talk-ins too - Luke Haines! Stuart Maconie! Robin Ince's Book Club with Stewart Lee, Ben Goldacre and Robyn Hitchcock! - but even so)
i think you're missing
BELLE AND FUCKING SEBASTIAN DJ SET
DJ set schmeJ set
We actually know more confirmed bands than the festival does. It's fantastic. (No, that's the wrong word)
hard to get excited about that
chris geddes has been doing dj sets for ages.
will keep an eye out for additions but i don't particularly want to go this year - i've been every year since it started but the price hike and this line up is really putting me off.
For me, the website is still only showing up
LINE UP TO BE ANNOUNCED blah blah blah
Is it like this for everyone else?
Reckon
this could spell the end of latitude, if grace jones is headlining what does that say for the rest of the acts to be announced?
close the website down
and start again.
Not that theres much to see...
Theres nothing to see!
At least thats £160 saved, i can now go and see Morrissey in Great Yarmouth instead.
i'm genuinely embarassed for festival republic
Who would seriously pay all that money
for that line-up also literally none of them are recent bands, a mix would be good ( or just dropping pet shop boys and grace jones ) poor gits who bought there tickets early
Do you reckon, maybe, like
people who don't post on drowned in sound?
^ This
I'd say the majority of the people there last year were there for stuff like Blondie or the non-musical entertainments.
eFestivals person seems to be suggesting it's like drawing blood from a stone
although he's eked The Gossip out from them. (Are they ever going to make an actual new record?)
Where does it say B&S DJs?
I just find it really weird
that they are being so secretive about it, announce the line up, if its any good people will buy tickets, though maybe thats the problem they dont have anything good.
reformed Magazine headlining Uncut apparently
!
Really? Bloody hell!
Obviously it'll be the same night as Nick Cave and I will have to cry, but even so.
surely won't be the same night as Nick Cave
don't they share band members? or have in the past?
Barry Adamson, but he's not been in the Bad Seeds for years
ah right
well, im hoping for them to play on Grace Jones night anyway. what an egg on face moment having her headlining above Editors and Magazine.
I went the last two years and loved it
but so pleased I picked Glasto instead this year. Latitude had a nice mix of young/old in previous years but evidently they decided that the teenagers weren't buying enough Pimms and foie gras pies...
My thoughts exactly
they have forgotten about fans and more about money, older middle class people can waste more money on the overpriced food and drink ( and also travel in everyday so less tents to clear up after )
Gossip are apparently headlining
the uncut arena :(
http://twitter.com/bbcsuffolk
at least
Mik Artistik is confirmed
Definitely worth the trip from Yorkshire to Suffolk to see him ...
hehehe
this is very poor, is rob da bank booking the headliners now, Live Nation f**k them selves again and again
Gutted
I've really enjoyed the past 2 years of Latitude and whilst its not all about the headliners, I don't want to shell out all that money for acts I don't think are up to the task of headlining.
Thinking about spending the money on some different musical events this summer. Any recommendations?
Any rumours who might be hosting Meltdown this year?
you don't think the pet shop boys and nick cave are "up to the task"??
are you from planet mental or something? have you ever actually seen the psbs? people at latitude on the friday this year are SO DAMN LUCKY
also grace jones is a heck of spectacle.
Personally, I'm a bit underwhelmed. But there is so much more to Latitude than the main stage.
I do think the PSB will put on a good show, they're not my cuppa though. In my opinion this is not the first time Latitude have chosen mediocre headliners. Snow Patrol, Damien Rice and The Good the Bad and the Queen spring to mind. I have been to every Latitude so far, and plan to again. There's always plenty to see on the other (usually far better) stages.
EXCELLENT POINT
damien rice, who gives a fuck?
interpol - YAWN
snow patrol - pass me the bucket
the good the bad and the queen actually made me run away
honestly, see the psbs though. doesn't even matter if you're not that into the music. same with grace but for different reasons.
I imagine I'll give both a go.
Unless there's someone I really want to catch elsewhere.
Having been properly tempted by this festival due to a VERY enthusiastic friend
but now considering not bothering if large sections of the crowd are as fucking whiny/unimaginative as some on this board.
Also, some might call me 'older and middle class' but that a) does not mean I like wasting my money on over-priced crap, and b) that I don't like any music post-1994.
I'm gonna go ahead and trust the opinion of people above who seem to have actually seen these headliners live and rated them highly. Should be a fun weeekend.
Never has a thread of DiS left me so utterly bemused?
People suggesting Editors should be playing above Grace Jones?
That the Pet Shop Boys shouldn't be the top act at a mid sized festival?
Get a grip people. Also remember - the festival has no obligation to you. They put on acts, you decide if you want to go or not.
Total agreement
I have no idea what's going on here. Also, as has been said tonnes of times before in relation to every festival: it's not JUST about the headliners. More than most festivals Latitude has a whole heap of things to do. You could avoid ALL musical stages and be happy with the experience. But to do so would mean missing out on some amazing bands and artists.
Besides, Nick Cave will be amazing, Grace Jones is a fantastic performer and Pet Shop Boys will be pop hittery of the finest order. I'll probably be watching someone else I prefer, regardless.
Last year I went despite not caring for any of the headliners
Didn't bother seeing one, was surprised and gobsmacked by one and left early for the other as it was a bit boring. Still had an amazing time and thought it was a fantastic festival.
I'm actually against the "it's all about the vibes" argument for festivals, but last year was so swamped with good/interesting bands that it didn't really matter who the headliners were. Most of my favourite bands that year were on the Sunrise/Lakeside stages anyway.
Will probably go again this year, the headliners aren't exactly my thing but I imagine it'll be a pretty incredible spectacle, I'll just get my musical kicks earlier in the day.
These are the best headliners the festival's ever had
This thread is full of idiots.
BUT DO YOU RECKON THIS COULD BE THE END OF LATITUDE, PUTTING ON MASSIVE BANDS THAT MIGHT NOT APPEAL TO FOUR PEOPLE ON HERE? HMMM?
you left your Caps Lock on
No, he was so angry he did the whole thing with shift
well not really, they are backed by the greed and power of Live Nation
when you consider that live nation lost a ton of money on the first Latitude one by over paying bands (this event was actually nicknamed "Gratitude" by performers and agents after all the bungs) and a a very very low turn out. they ran the first event as a loss leader.
they then went on to present a mildly pleasant event leaning towards a more savy music head and it appears they got it just right for all those jocks moving on from the horror of the leeds / reading / v / t in the park punter mentality.
was funny whilst it lasted
I'm not sure how I feel about this....
It was an unexpected headline list other than Nick Cave, but at the end of the day they're bound to be good shows!
im not sure either
but it has been the undercard (sunrise and bbc introducing)that has done it for me in the past. headliners are icing on the cake - mind you i do have a sugary tooth.
This thread is ridiculous
Reminds me of the dickheads moaning about Neil Young headlining Isle of Wight.
Don't like it, don't watch it end of.
That's a fantastic set of headliners
You miserable gits.
This just in: festival headliners aren't usually new bands with one album to their name.
This thread has depressed me a little bit
3 superb headline acts, well worth the money (providing the rest of the line up is decent). Stop whinging!
The line up so far is pretty good
Pet Shop Boys have some absolute classic songs! and i think they'll be great live! very much looking forward to them and Nick Cave
Did you see them at the Brits? PSB that is
Absolutely epic. I'm seriously thinking about a day ticket
Yeah right so
let's write off an ENTIRE festival because 2/3 headliners aren't to the liking of a few cretins who think that this festival OWES them something. It doesn't. If every festival was attended by the sort of bellend who thinks that EVERY festival except V should probably be headlined by Animal Collective, Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu or whatever shit Pitchfork told them to listen to last year then I'd bury myself in a concrete vault deep, deep below the earth and have 59,599,990 people for company too. Seriously.
Anyone who moans about the Pet Shop Boys headlining a festival they're going to deserves to be shot. THIS IS AN HONOUR! AN HONOUR! 3 iconic acts announced for 1 festival? Well that's good enough for me... Oh but Wolf Parade aren't playing JIPITUHSKLJBLKHJVBLVH FUUUUUUUUUUCK OFFFFFFFFF...
Sorry, I got angry.
...and we should all feel thoroughly ashamed of ourselves
for not being that excited about this year's Latitude headliners. Shame on us all.
By all means...
...don't get excited about them, and don't go. Please, I insist that you don't go if yuo really don't want to. And I mean that. Genuinely.
Just don't say that the headliners aren't up to the job because it kinda mixes your own opinion (which is fine. totally fine.) with the idea that you haven't a clue what you're talking about (which isn't good.). It is the collision of those two things which causes problems...
my apologies
for having an opinion which is different than yours and expressing it on this thread. I'll make sure i'll keep away from the festival this year and have a good long think about the error of my ways.
I was planning to go
The festival's nearby and to us, a relaxed weekend with a few friends and some popular bands (with, hey I dunno, one or two songs a typical 17/18 year old would enjoy) is what a festival's about. Bat for Lashes are great, but only a couple of my friends have heard of them. Editors, being the only band of said singalongable status, pale in comparison to last year's Interpol and Death Cab. I know the backlash against complaints regarding the lineup has already begun, but as a relatively young festival goer (like most of the board, I believe) this is appaling.
PSB's and Grace Jones?!! - FFS!!
Im so happy im not going to this shit!
Don't go then
They don't owe you anything. They put on bands, you go yay or neigh, and then part with your cash, or don't.
It really annoys me that people think think festivals somehow have this duty to please them, not that they are in fact in a free market and can choose to go to the one with the line up they like the best
ctfd
I'm disappointed on a PERSONAL level that this festival's not appealing to my demographic as it's nearby and seems like a lovely event. At no point did I say this was the 'wrong' lineup. My main point was that the reason there's been so much disappointment is it's not at all youth/DiS orientated. Why do I have 2 angry responses? I get it, they're probably good bands. I don't give a shit I'll just go elsewhere.
If you don't give a shit
Why did you spend time posting about it and calling it "appalling"
Ok
I understand some people will enjoy this festival. A lot of people seemed bemused that an artist without a UK top 40 hit this decade was not warmly received as a festival headliner on a board dominated by 18-25 year olds. I responded to the general ’Why are people complaining’ attitude stirring in the thread by explaining that young people aren’t usually mad on 80s nostalgia. For me, this lineup is appalling (ignore previous spelling). I will go elsewhere. But don’t be surprised at their lukewarm reception, it’s perfectly understandable.
the pet shop boys
have had 12 top 40 singles this decade. if charts are your measurement of a worthy headliner then they tip Interpol and Death Cab into a cocked hat.
also, i hate your suggestion that young people can't like good music just because it wasn't released in their lifetime. if people limit their tastes just to what the current crop of artists deliver, then they are going to remain very shallow indeed.
also, if you keep using inflamatory lanaguage like describing this lineup as appalling then you are going to continue to get people gunning for you. whether these bands are your or your age groups cup of tea doesn't matter - they're legends, show some respect and calm down.
I was talking about Grace Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Jones_singles_discography)
I wasn’t suggesting young people can’t like older music, but that all the young people I’ve spoken to about it are disappointed. For me, the lineup is appalling. That is my opinion on the lineup. I’ve no obligation to like a band because they’re ’legends’. I’m sure artists such as these are aware that young people will not be as attracted to them as to ’current’ artists.
it's not "the lineup"
it's six bands.
That’s what I’m talking about
The headliners. I should’ve made that clearer. But they’re the ones you’d most expect to be universally appealing.
I’m gonna stop talking, I appear to have pissed a lot of people off.
not really
it's more a case of... find me a festival announcement since the internet begun that wasn't accompanied by a chorus of "WORST! FESTIVAL! EVER!", followed by a sharp retraction six months later when it rolls around and it's great and i'll... eat my sleeping bag. or something.
plus,
latitude is, much like Glastonbury i guess, far more about the festival as a whole than just the headliners. and these far more express the idea of a large-albeit-leftfield festival far more than the festival circuit dullards they had last year.
Sorry
I see now I was in a bit of a cuntish mood when I made all of these comments. I've ended up being the one defending the lineup against my friends' complaints. The lineup's looking fair so far. Regina will save the day.
This thread is bewildering
It reminds me of the Jay Z/Glastonbury nonsense last year.
Jay Z was awesome, all three Latitude headliners will be awesome.
If you go, you'll have a good time, unless you're really trying not to, which I imagine some people will be. These people are twerps.
Alright, alright
I kind of feel responsible for some of this, as it ended up being a quite unexpected mix based on the last couple of years, but that was my brain being a twat for a bit, and besides the most sobering thing you can do when undecided about some headliners (which in a festival of Latitude's breadth and depth doesn't really matter) is read the 17 year old txt speaker on the official forum.
Maybe they've done it to ensure nobody complains about TWENTY QUID MORE THAN LAST YEAR.
Yeah...
it's not like the kids are listening to stuff that sounds like Hi-NRG and italo, or mutant disco, is it? Or that there's a revival of that kind of thing, with compilations and reissues.
Hang on a second:
Erm, Pet Shop Boys, not singalongable? Editors MORE singalongable than Pet Shop Boys???? What has this world come to! Don't you tarnish us 18 year old boys with your Pet Shop Boys disliking brush (although maybe I wouldn't count as typical... but STILL)
You disagree?
Ask a random selection of 17/18 year olds whether they prefer Editors or Pet Shop Boys.
I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about.
All quite silly really.
It shouldn't sell out in two minutes flat, they'll most likely announce more bands soon, possibly ones that won't be so controversial.
Besides, as a festival it will probably end up still being pretty damn good.
Jeffrey Lewis added to the line up
I've got my ticket already. I'm still finding new old music every day so having been surprised at the headliners, I think my initial thoughts have now been replaced by curiosity more than anything; which can only be a good thing. As many people have said, this festival can be entertaining without seeing any of said headliners at all, indeed in an easier fashion than I've experienced at other events of a larger size. Hoping The Wave Pictures return this year, and perhaps some more electronic acts...
looking to be pretty good now we actually have some acts announced:
NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS!!
jeff lewis
magazine
bat for lashes
robin inces book club (featuring STEWART LEE, JOSIE LONG & ROBIN HITCHCOCK!!!)
late night tales
simon armitage
luke wright
where is
magazine announced?
BBC Suffolk confirmed them
Has nobody considered the fact
that the Pet Shop Boys are in fact, immense.
So true
I'm glad someone else is willing to admit it!
They're fucking immense live.
First band I went to see live, way back in 88.
jeff lewis doing his watchmen lecture!
i was holding out that MBV might make an appearence
sadly no :(
Editors and NC&TBS will be nice though :)
personally I would quite like to see PSBs live
and I'm not a really a fan as such. Rather them than fucking Snow Patrol, Interpol blah blah (can't think of anyone else). Since when did people go to festivals for the headliners anyway. Go to another festival/stage/whatever
Smart move
Always a good move - put the tickets on sale minutes before you announce the line up. The headliners are pretty tragic - this is Latitude moving into festival mainstream land. Jeffrey Lewis should be good though.
"The headliners are pretty tragic - this is Latitude moving into festival mainstream land."
please explain how
Latitude? Virtually Supersonic before now
what with Damien Rice, Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini, Franz Ferdinand, a headline booking for a one-album band based on the fact their singer used to be in Blur and Gorillaz...
Did Cake really play second on the Obelisk bill in 2007? CAKE?!

best comedy bitch i've seen so far, stolen from the last fm event page:
":( Sorely dissapointed after waiting so long for the line up to be published. Is it sponored by The Daily Mail this year? PSB???? Purlease!"
aussies, gays and blacks - three groups totally in with the daily mail!
This thread is funny

My flatmate had pet shop boys best of
in his cd clock radio thing. I used to wake up to Go West coming through the walls at 6am EVERY DAY. It still haunts my dreams.
I love Go West by the Pet Shop Boys

Not looking forward to Shed Seven then?
I heard they were rumoured. I'm glad I'm not going to Latitude this year, it's a bit rubbish.
