What is music and what does it do for you?
This may die a death, but I find it's a pretty interesting thing to discuss, especially on a forum with so many contrasting views. Feel free to be as uber-pretentious or blunt as you like, it's just a chat I guess.
Do you think Music is simply a collection of notes that're put in a mathematical order and intervals which our minds either appreciate or dislike? Do you think it's just frequencies that cause some kind of generic reaction in our heads? Or do you think something 'else' happens when you listen to music, and that it is genuinely an expression of our emotions/spirituality/lives, and it taps into our souls/spirits/hearts when we listen to it?
The more you read about what actually scientifically happens in our brains when we listen to music we either love or hate (I saw a program where they took brain scans of a person listening to this amazing piece of 20th Century Romantic Music that he loved, and it showed that their brain was bathed in blood with emotion and happiness), it sometimes backs up the belief that Music is genuinely a reflection of human emotion, and be communicated and understood by us, rather than being 'just' music.
I don't know! Talk to me!
