CARTER USM TO PLAY FOUR ALBUMS AT TWO EXCLUSIVE LONDON DATES
CARTER USM will play their first four albums in full, and in track order at the London venues The Kentish Town Forum (Nov 13th) and Brixton 02 Academy (Nov 14th).
Entitled ‘The Drum Machine Years’ these gigs will showcase the four albums when Carter were a two-piece and at their commercial peak. After each album has been performed they will play an encore of assorted favourites from that period.
The Forum show will include their number one pop smash ‘1992: The Love Album’, along with the dark and brooding, top five follow up, ‘Post Historic Monsters’.
The following night at Brixton Academy will see the performance of their classic debut ‘101 Damnations’ along with fans favourite, their first top ten album, ’30 Something’.
Jim Bob says “We really enjoyed playing the re-union gigs. They were fantastic life affirming celebrations and turned out to be some of the best ever Carter shows. We decided that if we did it again it had to be something different, for both the audience and for us. Performing our first four albums in full, first track to last is something we’ve never done. We might even chuck in a cheeky Take That style costume change.”
Fruitbat adds “'We will be playing songs that we have never played live before and I am really looking forward to that challenge. If ‘The Sparks’ can learn twenty or so albums then we can do this! We are really thrilled to not only be playing our 11th show at The Academy, but it will be wonderful to return to The Forum where we also played some classic gigs. These sets should be marathons so I’m going to get in training. I think the audience should too as we are all going to need to be fit for this!”
Carter USM had six top thirty albums (four of which went top ten) and fourteen top forty hits from 1987-1997. After a ten year break they reformed for two shows in 2007 at Brixton Academy and Glasgow Barrowlands. Both shows sold out and the Brixton show sold all five thousand tickets with minimal publicity in just a few days. The audience also smashed venue bar records.
They returned in 2008 for further shows at Birmingham and Brixton Academy. Both sold out and Carter now hold the record for the highest bar take at the Birmingham Academy.
Tickets go on sale from 9am Friday 13th February.
