Just got this e-mail from Truck
Not sure what I think of this at all. Paying to upload your music? And then claiming it's better for the environment. Is the money going towards an environmental charity then? Hmmm.
Subject: TRUCK TWELVE opens up twelve slots for new bands via Sonicbids
The 12th Truck Festival takes place at Hill Farm, Steventon on July 25 & 26, 2009.
At Truck we try to provide a platform for new artists, so we are making 12 slots available for artists applying online. For this year's festival we are taking submissions exclusively via Sonicbids, who also handle events like South by Southwest and The Great Escape. This means bands and performers wishing to play at TRUCK should submit their music direct to us via the Sonicbids platform and avoid getting lost in the demo CD mountain (and a long queue at the Post Office).
HOW DO I SUBMIT?
Just click on this LINK and upload whatever you'd like us to see in your Electronic Press Kit (EPK)- music, photos, etc.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?
All EPKs must be uploaded to Sonicbids' Truck Festival page by April 1st 2009. All submissions will be responded to by June 1st 2009.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
$10 (US dollars ). This should be around £7, depending on exchange rate. It's in Dollars because they are a US company. The $10 is for submission to Truck and includes a month's free membership but your music will be available to us until the notification date on June 1st 2009. You do NOT have to pay for ongoing Sonic Bids membership (unless you want to!)
WHAT, I HAVE TO PAY?
Yes, but it's about the same as making a CD, putting it in a parcel and sending it and there's less negative impact on the environment. We receive more than 1000 CDs a year. We're using Sonic Bids because we feel we haven't been able to give all demo submissions fair attention in the past.
HOW MANY SLOTS ARE AVAILABLE?
We are looking to put on one new artist each day to open each stage. That means there are 12 slots available exclusively to artists submitting via Sonicbids.
HOW MUCH DO I GET PAID?
Selected artists will receive travel costs and expenses. Backline is provided on all stages.
WHAT TYPES OF PERFORMERS ARE CONSIDERED?
Most genres will be considered - alternative rock / electronic / folk / country / world / rock / shoegaze / rave etc - although an independent mindset is what's most important. Artists from around the Oxfordshire area are encouraged but all artists will be considered.
We're looking forward to hearing from you!
