british music since 2000 (and for a while before that too)
It is undeniably pretty lame compared to America for instance. I think personally the only British album getting in my top 30 since the turn of the century would be Mclusky Do Dallas, and to be quite honest, that's a pretty sorry state of affairs.
What is the principal factor for our lack of achievement?
1 - The fact America is huge and statistically they should have 30 great bands for every 1 great british band?
2 - The press over here are largely a bunch of self-satisfying cunts and support great American music, yet fashionable, saleable, and ultimately empty British music?
3 - Regular music buying / gig going people over here are a bunch of cunts (who just listen to the press)?
4 - Culturally, we aren't in a position to produce great musicians / bands?
5 - There has just been a bizarre lack of talent in the UK for the last 10+ years?
6 - something else?
Obviously its a combination of the above, but I just don't get it. There have been some good niche albums, and albums that have been really good but not been "big", but it really is weird.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
