selling out and what do you class as a "big" or "massive" band?
This thread ( http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4149778 ) jus' got me head scratching because it seems that some peoples concept of 'big' is actually quite small. Obviously there are some joke suggestions but a band like Women being big would be them playing Shepherds Bush Empire, maybe? Not sure they'd get that 'big'. Or do people consider big being able to headline Bush Hall and play to a hundred or so people in other major cities?
To me 'big' is being able to play a couple of nights at he Roundhouse or get on the cover of Guardian Film & Music, Sunday Times Culture and/or be on daytime Radio 1/2. And being massive is playing Forum+ sized venues and big academys around the country, being able to play 1000+ gigs in most major cities, selling 100,000+ records.
Like, would people say Youthmovies (whose album barely sold 2000 copies) are a 'big' band? And where is the "you're a sell out" boundary?
