Hip Hop reviews on indie sites
Right, this is getting fucking ridiculous. Why, 85% of the time, can't people get it right?
There is...
the constant suggestion white guys can't do hip hop (and if they can, they have to pay their dues to black guys for inventing it apparently, and still aren't as good as black guys)
Then there's a ridiculous amount of inverted racist snobbery.
They're either patronising to everyone... Saul Williams/Cadence Weapon being commended for not being 50 Cent as they are black and therefore are normally rapping about gunz and shit.
Then there's the reverse, Kanye West being commended for being a "conscious" rapper by the Guardian and wank, for occasionally being vaguely political (despite the fact he seems to be slightly retarded in his viewpoints and is as misogynistic as the next guy)
Then there's the worst Pitchfork type praising lowest common denominator Hip Hop for being honest and true because it doesn't pretend to be intelligent, irrespective or whether it is shit or not.
There's also the crowd who hate any kind of "conscious" or "experimental" Hip Hop (labels which are compeltely ridiculous and patronising in themselve. See Mos Def's rant on this) yet their indie tastes are akin to them listening to nothing but Clouddead or whatever.
FUCKING SORT IT OUT
ps, I dont mean this site, or pitchfork in particular, and I am not really a fan of Dan Le Sac/Scroobius Pip
