Best earphones to buy for ipod?
My earphones that came with my ipod are now fucked and I need a new set. Anyone recommend a good set that don't cost the earth?

Mine broke recently after 2 1/2 years of daily use. I have upgraded to CX 500's which have a clearer sound but lack the bass punch (so far).
Whatever you choose get them from Amazon as their prices are very competitive

The sound isolation and carry case are superb. Plus Shure give you a two year guarantee, which is nice.
Get Sony one's
Personally, ive had both the Sennheiser & Sony ones in the past. The Sony one's are much much better. More bass and more treble. Both earphones cost about £20-25.

That's what I use.
They are very good but will break. However, they did replace them without much hassle (which means you get all new wax guards, attachments etc). The wax guards do fuck me off though.

i have never had a pair of earphones with that odd bit sticking out, but i always find that as i walk they move around and i lose the sound and i am constantly adjusting them.
is this the way other people find them, or do i walk like a mong?

are too small. When I wore them, just the once on the day I got my iPod, I would smile, say to the lyrics of Vicar in a Tutu and they would fall out. They hurt my lugs.

Do people even bother using those ipod headphones? The first thing i did was chuck them in the bin.

if you are using the ear buds that came with your iPod that you don't really like music. I don't know why I jump to that conclusion but it's like if I see someone eating McDonald's I think to myself "oh, you don't like proper food then".

i buy these plain sony black ones that cost about £8 from local electronics shop, last about 10-18 months, and sound amazing compared to any other earphones i've used.
proves you don't have to break the bank for a good listen.
i use them because i have nice headphones
but i'm not gonna lug them about with me or wear them whilst i'm cycling, especially since the sound quality sucks in those situations anyway. and bollocks to buying new ones.

Maybe I got some dodgy Chinese knock off pair, but mine were a bit average? After all the great reviews, they only really coped with dance music, r&b and pop and made all rock / indie very sludgy and wall-of-sound like.

Everything sounds
either tinny or swampy after Bose. As long as they can drown out the daily grinding sounds of the hell of OTHER PEOPLE TALKING in the street etc I am happy with my Sennheiser.

The standard iPod ones are good for when you're cycling, as they block out no sound at all.
Otherwise - absolutely fecking worthless.

A bit on the pricey side, £40. However, the sound is very clear and they are the most balanced headphones I have ever owned.
Plus, they are great if you use mass transit, they seal into your ears so they block out background noise.
Their customer support is also fantastic (in the US at least).
My girlfriend has Sennheisers and I feel they are too bass-heavy.

Total waste of money. Irritatingly the sound is good, but the build is just woeful.
I read loads of warnings about the quality (or lack of) of their products, but pressed on and bought a pair of FMJs regardless.
AWESOME sound......for about two months, then they just stopped working. Got sent another pair and the same thing happened again.
The net is full of people with similar stories and the same thing happened with my brother's pair.

I have Bose in-ear ones that I wouldn't recommend at all: far too much bass, and pretty muddy sounding. Plus, they're pretty overpriced, like all Bose products really.
The CX300s are pretty decent, but there's no mid-range, just top and a decent bass, so are good for the price i guess. But 3 pairs of mine broke, with the left ear channel being blown out each time (though this was probably a faulty iPod).

iGrados are the best portable phones i've used
they aren't as good as my Alessandros, but they also aren't massively oversized with a 5m cable and zero isolation (though admittedly, the isolation is fairly close to zero - i'm pretty sure my entire office can hear mine). They're a baby Grado in every sense, but it's about as good as you'll get for the price (£30-ish). And yes, they are still very good
Saying that, i'm not a fan of in-ear phones at all. Cheap canal phones (like the Creatives and CX300s mentioned above) just sound congested, innaccurate, flat and bloated to me. And i've never tried out any IEMs (which go deeper into your ear) because i really don't like the idea of poking around in there. Plus i've read some urban legends about people popping their eardrum when they take them out too quickly - no thanks mate. Also, they tend to be expensive.
Although coming from a stock iBud background, i'm sure you'll find anything an improvement. Although you probably don't like music n ting
so yeah, iGrado ftw. You just have to develop a selfish disdain for anyone else who might be in earshot

They are horrible. Really good bass if that's what floats your boat but awful treble, slightly improved with Treble Booster turned on in the EQ settings. I had some very similar Sony ones(even the rubber seal things fit the Senheisers) that sounded so much better.

In ear types hurt my ears, I've tried Sennheisers which were decent and some expensive Sony's which were fookin' shite. Sound was ok, not as good as the Sennheisers but build was woeful.
I've been using those Koss one's now for ages and they are the tits. Sound quality is awesome, price is very reasonable and a lifetime warranty. Very comfortable.
The design is like marmite, I don't mind looking a bit Blade Runner tho and they're not as big as they look.

these are my ones and i love them, they cost me £52 from Amazon. the only problem with them is the extra long extention cable which you have to use because without it the standard cable is too short.

A pointless bump but some advice gratefully received. Had some Sennheiser CX300's but they've bust.
So want to get some decent headphones or earphones. Having had both I'm easy, but I am concerned that my track record of breaking these fuckers is high despite always using carry cases and generally being pretty careful.
Any tips? I was considering the Shure E2c and a bit of a treat as they're £48 on Amazon right now...
I find that no matter which ones I get (cheap or expensive)
they bust within 6 months anyway. And if they don't, I lose them instead. So I'm just going to get 3 sets of the cheap Creative ones - they sound fine to me, but then again I've nothing to compare them against.

Expensive but you won't regret it. All the parts are replaceable including the cable, sound is amazing - bloody loud and they don't let any outside noise in.

Yes they are very well made,
designed to stand up to dj'ing/studio use. They are so good that they have pretty much become the industry standard for production and dj'ing. The sound quality is brilliant,but as they are for studio it us a very untinted sound - they won't make music sound warmer or anything.
I can't really see why I wouldn't want the HD 25 HP versions though

I just tuck it under a jumper or something. I think for some reason the more expensive ones have a shorter cable.
