Cure For Pain just edges Yes for me but there really isnt any bad Morphine music. If you like Nick Cave, Waits, Cohen, Cash, then you WILL love Morphine
I once was stranded in Washington for anight on my own, saw they were playing and went to the 9.30 club. But it was sold out. Which was annoying as hell. So I hung around for a few pondering my next move, and being a stranger in town on my own, I didnt really have any great plans, then I saw that the folks coming out of the venue had stamps on their hands. It was a lion and so I chatted to a girl and got her to let let me sketch her stamp onto my hand in biro and then smudged it and went back in with her.
I think Morphine is more overlooked than underrated. Everyone I turn on to Morphine (the band) loves them instantly. I have never seen that before. I have everything except the best of and the Box but only because I still haven't gotten over Sandman's death on stage- jeez.
"Night" is my favorite- I went out and bought a case of Chartreuse after hearing it and still (as hideous tasting as it is) have a shot in Mark's honor about once a year.
How could a person who is 'into music' not get bitten by Morphine? Morphine is infectious and addictive. I have never encounterd a "disimisser" but now that you mention it- I can hear it know.
I think its because they are soo damn catchy..some people are used ot 'good' bands growing on them and are suspicious of instantly gratifying music if it is not presented in some kind of ironic fashion or in some kind of big brian wilson esque arrangement
one of my all tiem favourite bands
and sorely missed....The Night promised so much in terms of a new direction.
This does bring tears when I listen to it..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=985JGeGq_tc
Twinemen, the band set up by ex members of morphine is not bad but is lounge music compared to what morphine represented.
I first saw them at glastonbury..I didn't know who they were...i was just drawn to them...straight after i bought everythign they releases.
Underrated?
Maybe, it's trange I know a lot of people into tom waites and leanord cohen but don't really dig morphine..which i found strange
So..maybe.
I'm going back to bed now
*time
and if this thread sinks
most definitely.
But that could be because I posted on it...i tend to kill them.
So maybe it should;t be a reflection of morphine's general awesomeness!
I only own a 'Singles' compilation
but it's one of the best things I own. I should probably buy some more stuff.
That Singles album is fucking brilliant though.
i have all their records
and I love them so

A double score.
I won.
you cna convert that post
into lyrics for a sandman-esque song.
that is a very nice
compliment
it was radar
from yes i heard first actually.
but, cure for pain beats it...
next on your list
should be cure for pain.
similar style to the singles.
then the night.
then go and get Good..their earlier sound with their first drummer who was amazing.
Not like you asked or anything.
but you should
much <3 for Morphine

I've acutally found
the people who 'aren't really into music' but who like 'cassics' reallydig morphine when i play it to them...because they really like the songs..
it's people who 'are into music' that seem to dismiss them
that's sad, and weird

I don;t have any idea
it's like..'meh'.

was thinking about this band just this morning
and could I remember the name? Could I $$$$! So, many thanks...
the chainsaw bass
oh how i loved that sound!!!
Poor sandman died of a heart attack on stage.
An amazing thread
I thought they'd just disappeared from view and were forgotten about. I saw them at Glasto in '95 and they were mindblowing.
hugely underrated
awesome band
'murder for the money'
is sleazy great
I love
Cure For Pain.....
while we're on meds :-), Codeine were great too
^^yep
i still love that 'barely real' record
