3volution (mini rant)
It was shit. Where to start...
*It was ticketed, therefore it sold out and (by my own fault admittidley) i didnt have a ticket. Paying for it also took away the best bit about it, you could come and go as you pleased, without worrying too much about queues, and it was FREE!!
*Selling 5000 tickets at 6pm? Bollocks were they, apparently they sold them at 12pm but didnt bother to put posters up or tell people. So i couldn't get a ticket from there either, which meant lots of walking around the Quayside trying to figure out what was going on.
*It was piss easy to get in, on the plus side, as you either walked in past the backs of the security people via the exits, or got someone to pass you a wristband through the fence (what me and my friends did)
*The bands...hmm, not good. Does it Offend You Yeah - actually the best band of the day, good sound and some good tunes. Hercules and Love Affair were dull dull dull! Crystal Castles, love the album, but god they were rubbish live. The synths were too quiet, her vocals non existant in the whispery parts, and it was generally boring to watch. New Young Pony Club, awful again. All the songs sounded exactly the same, the sound was again dreadful with the guitar doing funny things and the bass too quiet the whole time. She can't sing and the synth player may as well not be there for the amount of playing she does. After that, we didnt bother to stay for CSS as we only wanted to see Lets Make love and we knew they wouldn't play it first.
*Compared to last year, which had a brilliant line up, we were all bitterly disappointed. Should've known after seeing the line up it wasnt worth bothering with, but ho hum.
*What was once a brilliant free festival, I now feel will become increasingly more expensive each year to "cover the costs" and will eventually be charged at say the same price as Field Day or some other similar one day experience. Added to which, this year they cut down on the week long events that they've had the last few years, with loads of gigs going on all over Newcastle. Such a shame that something so good has become so poor i feel.
Anyone else go this year and think it was rubbish, or am I just being stupid and it was actually amazing?
