Why isn't Youthmovies bigger?!!
So their new album is absolutely perfect and filled with all this gorgeous subtle magic that kicks in after a couple listens. My point, now, in posting this, is why aren't they bigger than they are? I thought that after the new record came out they'd be, say, Foals-level. It just justifies (haha) my belief that the proverbial great masses don't see a good thing when they have it.
Will Youthmovies stay underground forever? if so, I wouldn't mind. What they do is more respectable than most bands out there (Foals included, as much as I lovvvvve them!) and I think they're the type of band that will be appreciated years after the fact.
Now, take into consideration that I say this as someone who always ....... understooooood their potential, but wasn't so amazed by, say, "Hurrah" or the early Homeless Musics CDs (definitely not!). "Honey Slides," then, amazed me (so weird and beautiful!) and then the new longplayer made my jaw drop and my knickers wet. I know some dissers aren't loving the drone portion that starts the record, but good lord I think it's beautiful....... and brave! Youthmovies takes chances whereas "YMSS" was content to merge postrock with 90s hardcore and emulate ATDI. I commend them on their big changes and moves as of late and the beautiful colours, glorious lyrics, and uncommericial angles "good nature" gives us. It's such a jump from the kind of ... oh, I hate to say this... boring hardcore of Hurrah it just makes me smile... or something.
Sorry if my spelling is retched, but I don't care. The music world is so verily choked with bad soulle$$ bands aping what makes money but Youthmovies, in the end, feels passionate, real...... and right.
