Johnny Foreigner In Glasgow And Everything That's Crap About The Music Scene
Johnny Foreigner were AMOOZOONG (amazing) tonight in Glasgow. Really great. A hyperactive, pow-r-ball of energy biscuits. Like Messenger In The Camp by Seafood turned on it's head and multiplied by a million and two. Zap!
There was literally 4 people there to see them, which, to me, was embarrassing. And to say Glasgow isn't rife with a true passion for spacky, 90's-encrusted indie-rock would by lying on a massive scale. I made my little brother (the one who is into Daniel Bedingfield - mentioned in another thread about tonight's gig) stand down the front with me, looking awkward and confused.
The other bands had faux-american accents, instruments bought by wealthy parents and sounded like my nightmares mixed with Lost-Prophets (double nightmares). They had the audacity to borrow Jofo's gear and then bugger off before they played, taking their daft, little emo, teen pals with them. This, to me (perhaps i'm overreacting a little, but still), is a disgrace and it's no wonder these terrible, terrible, hobby metal bands come and go so regularly as they do when they can't even follow simple gig-etiquette and stick around and help the touring band out a little with some support. Shame on them.
Maybe i'm just so used to things being done so much better. Do i blame the promoters for putting on such pointless, anti-music support bands who couldn't pull a crowd if they handed out 50 pound notes to passers by in the street outside? Or do i blame myself for not being able to support them with my own band, putting up posters and getting a good crowd down to show some support for such a kick-ass band? Sometimes music scenes i love make me very sad.
I gave them my last 10 pounds for a t-shirt to help with petrol costs :)
ps. To the guy i threated to batter for pushing my wee bro, sorry i over-reacted!
