Dan Deacon is very very good live
Its not just hype, he's genuinely amazing.
Aside from looking like Tim Harrington's slightly special brother (and his sweat also smells remarkably similar), he's a genius at getting the audience to participate and stuff. He's like an avant-garde Timmy Mallet or something. He gave us all lyric sheets for 'Wham City', and we had a dance contest. It was genuinely uplifting, and entertaining in a completely unpretentious way.
I feel fantastic now. Cats In Paris supported him, and they were obviously great as well, and so was the guy whose name I can't remember from Montreal who was on after Cats In Paris. But there's just something special about Dan Deacon that allows him to do what he does in the way that he does it. There is literally no darkness to his music. Its really very not-human music in so many ways, because aside from being electronic it really doesn't span a proper gamut of human emotions, its just childishly optimistic all the time. And that sort of singularity is just amazing live. And judging by my current listening-through of his album, I have a newfound appreciation for his recorded music as well.
So thankyou, Dan Deacon, for lifting by spirits this otherwise deeply mediocre evening.
Anyone else go?
Also, he's playing with No Age and Gay Against You in London on the 7th, which is a show if you're around you just simply have to go to, you don't even really count as a human being if you don't.
