Jens Lekman tonight
Was absolutely beautiful.
It was in a church in Salford and there were maybe about 150 people in the crowd and he just played amazing reduced versions of most of his songs (and full versions of others, like 'Friday Night At The Drive-In Bingo' and 'The Opposite of Hallejulah'). He did like two encores and then would have played more after "lying down" (because he hadn't slept for two days, apparently) and signing CDs. He was actually incredibly friendly and he signed stuff for literally like everyone. And when he was signing the piece of paper my e-ticket information was printed on I wanted to say something complimentary and profound but was too shy to really say anything substantial but he probably would have responded well if I had.
His stage banter was also brilliant, especially the little context-giving story he gave about 'Postcard To Nina' (which is in the song, really, about how his German penfriend who is moving to America with her girlfriend has told her father she is engaged to Jens to avoid coming out to him) and his story about accidentally going on a seniors wine-touring trip to Germany. He has like two great sitcom episodes right there, seriously.
Basically, if you weren't there, life just kind of sucks for you right now. Unless of course you're like in love and happy and stuff. But then if so why are you even reading this, GO TO HIM/HER.
