Why do so many noise records sound like shit?
Let me expand...I can understand in the case of some bands e.g. The Dead C, The Goslings why certain elements of tape hiss, extraenous recording sounds add to the atmosphere, texture etc. But so many bands of that ilk produce fucking horrible sounding records e.g. Times New Viking etc and I seriously don't understand why that should be the case. To my mind, given that they don't have traditional songcraft to fall back on, it's noise artists above all others who should be striving for a decent sounding record with decent separation in the mix, so the various sonic elements can actually be heard and absorbed.
