Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen: What's the band that's going to be absolutely massive in the second half of '05? I reckon Maximo Park are going to get pretty big, but I'm usually wrong.

I reckon you could be right there pal. Graffiti is getting a fair bit of airplay and their album is marvellous. I just wish people would stop comparing them to the Futureheads.

      Starting to hate them? The Arctic Monkeys backlash is in full swing already. But yeah, I agree, looks like they're going to 'crack it'. Oh well, could be worse.
      
      Ideally I'd like it to be someone like Redjetson or Explosions in the Sky or Patrick Wolf but I can't see it, at least not on a Franz/Bloc Party/Killers scale.

    in metal circles, Trivium are rapidly shooting up to the seat of the metal gods, but i can see a little band called Mors Principium Est making a dent in 06 - that is if the SOAD albums don't make everything else irrelevant and outdated, which frankly, they probably will.

  I think I can safely say that the next big artist will appeal to a wide range of people, have a melodic edge, unoffensive and is influenced by what has happened in the past.

This year I see Sons and Daughters taking off nicely as well as The Rakes, Maximo Park and some band called Franz Ferdinand...hear they're alright.

Next year, Raising Kain, Arctic Monkey (everyone's saying it so I ought to join the gang) and The Ronelles.

The actual next big thing will probably be a bloody ska revival. 'Cos the NME said so, innit. So it must be true. That said, The Rank Deluxe will be big, cos they have a bit of ska in 'em. And 'major label interest'. And a bassist with a really big hairy mole smack bang in the middle of his chest. Which surely qualifies them for fame this year.

        Intresting someone said the inspiral carpets sound will come back. Judigng by recent trends weve had 70's (Strokes, Jet, etc) 80's (killers, Bravery, etc) 90's (kaisers, Keane,) thats definitely missing out the baggy period (apart from Kasabian) So most likely is loads of bands who try and sound like stone roses first album, early charlatans, happy mondays,
        
        although hopefully loads of original exciting and unexpectadly epic bands will emerge....you never know
        
        Post rock will never 'break through' as such cause it will never get day time radio play, it will maintain a massive following though amongst the 'underground'.
        The likes of mogwai are very popular just not in the mainstream.

  I dunno about The Departure, they havn't had the NME hype which bands need to break through to the main-mainstream. People perceive them as being a bit fake.

The New Wave Of George Formby is the next big thing, mark my words.

Singing in an exaggerated regional dialect hasn't been so popular since the halcyon days of When I'm Cleaning Windows and I Told My Baby With The Ukelele. In a few months time the chart will be full of trouble at t'mill, when the boot comes in, bread wi' nowt taken out, shiver me timbers and all that shizzle.

I can see Forward, Russia! getting quite big. I have only heard the stuff off their website but will probably make the investment soon. Some of it may seem a bit proggish for the mainstream, but i expect they could release a more single-ish song and get quite popular, kind of a bit like Mars Volta did.

I can really see Clor doing well for themselves. They've got that perfect mix of pop, indie and dance that Franz have. All they need now is a bit of Radio 1 attention and they'll have it in the bag!
