Pros & Cons of Arrogance/Confidence in bios
I'm soon gonna re-write my Myspace blurb for Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences.
The thing is I'm feeling really confident about the band at the moment (our gigs have mostly been going well and I spent last week working with our drummer/producer mixing some new band recordings that I think do sound rather special) and want to reflect this in what I write.
On the other hand I'm reluctant to make us look like another band that feels the need to claim to be the most brilliant, exciting and unique thing ever (not that I don't believe this to be true; I just think that bands who write this on bios etc. come across as insecure in the same way that people who feel the need to tell you how intelligent or interesting they are are seldom intelligent or interesting).
In the past I've always been ultra self-deprecating but I'm trying to move away from that, partly because I don't think it does us any favours and partly 'cos, whereas in the past I've felt inclined to play down how good we are, I'm really starting to believe I'm part of something exciting.
So basically my question is how does one write a good bio that reflects self-confidence and belief in the merit of what you're doing without sounding desperate?
