The Horse and Groom in Old Street shut down?
Well, I just found this in my MySpace bulletins from Steve, ex. of Collapse:
THE HORSE AND GROOM - DODGY PEOPLE! PLEASE READ!
HELLO.
Ok. Last night I turned up to the Horse and Groom on Curtain Rd in Old Street at about 6:00 to get set up for the show I booked there over a month ago. The place was totally shut up. Ok, I thought, someone will arrive soon to open the door to let me in. One by one all the bands started turning up, P.V.H, SUNSHINE REPUBLIC, HUNTING LODGE, DURACELL. The soundman Alex turned up, two members of bar staff turned up. We all stood outside until about 7:00. No one arrived to let us in. This was embarrasing. At about this point one of the members of Bar staff who were also locked out told me that The Horse and Groom doesnt actually have a music licence and that someone from the councl had dropped by the night before and busted the place. Then they dissapeared. No one at the Horse and Groom bothered to phone me and tell me this.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THE HORSE AND GROOM, THEY ARE DODGY, UNRELIABLE, FLAKEY PEOPLE. ANYONE WITH SHOWS COMING UP THERE - I would assume that its not going to happen, I'd look for somewhere else. Dont wait for them to contact you because they probably wont bother.
Between 7:15 and 8:00 I ran around the Old Street area going into every single place I could think of to move the show to. I found The Plaza on Curtain rd! The show went ahead! It was great!
MASSIVE MASSIVE THANK YOU to DURACELL, HUNTING LODGE, SUNSHINE REPUBLIC and P.V.H for not just fucking off and sticking around to do the show, to ALEX, Horse and Groom soundguy who ran around Old Street with me looking for another venue, and then stuck around and did the sound at The Plaza, to THE PLAZA, really really lovely cool people, and a MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who went all the way to The Horse and Groom, saw the sign, and then made it all the way to The Plaza! Sorry about that! Hope you all had a good time at The Plaza anyway! I did!
