NME & The Twang - the love affair is over!
Talk about hypocrisy! - this weeks NME runs another tedious, ageist feature on rock music belonging to teenage youth and then they fill most of their pages up with articles on Paul McCartney, Smashing Pumpkins, Kaiser Chiefs and other artists all dissed in 'angsty-teen' Tim Jonze's said assault.
Now all thats laughable and i dont expect anything less from this organ but can someone please explain what is going on with that Twang album review?
Now i hate the Twangsters with a vengeance, but for the life of me i kind of find myself, sort of, jumping to their defense at the hiding they've recieved for their debut LP at the hands of the sublimley ugly James Jam.
The overiding gist of the review is that they are being trashed for the very thing the NME loved them for just a couple of months ago, ie; being chavy, laddy, louty, lager-drinking, keeping-it-real Happy Mondays wannabes.
" but we were'nt looking for thugs" blubbers Jam " And what were we looking for? Well, you know, hugs." Hilarious!
Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this bizarre u-turn? This is a 'Build them up-knock 'em down!' thats been pulled in record time. I almost, almost, feel sorry for them.
