Don't Start Feeling All "Romantic" & Tasty Fanzine at Lee Rosy's Tea
Wednesday May 30th
BENJAMIN WETHERILL
www.benjaminwetherill.co.uk
Nothing is straightforward about Benjamin Wetherill. Despite featuring the classically gaunt features and clothes of a 1930's poet no easily explained centre to his mix of originals and covers that take in a vast array of influences - George Formby, John Fahey, Woody Guthrie, old-time acoustic blues and traditional English folk - but he's in no way trapped by the past and his sly sense of humour adds another flavour to the mix.
BEN CALVERT
www.bencalvert.com
Dark modern folk sung with beguiling West Midlands inflections. A collection of folk melencholia haunted by the shadows of Bert Jansch, Nick Drake and The Smiths.

POCKETBOOKS
www.myspace.com/pocketbooks
Pocketbooks are an indiepop band from London, brought together through a shared love of tambourines, handclaps, glockenspiels, jangly guitars and boy/girl harmonies. They feature on the sold out 'Kids At The Club' compilation alongside the likes of Saturday Looks Good To Me, Voxtrot and I'm From Barcelona and are the headliners of the sold out first ever Indie Tracks night in Derbyshire. New single out on Atomic Beat Records soon!

THE BESTIES
www.myspace.com/thebesties
The Besties are a Brooklyn based party band. They get the usual 'indiepop' and 'twee' tags, which are mildly justified, but this is a band who couldn't give a hoot about the history of Sarah Records and C86. They just want to have fun and make you dance like a fool. Chances are they'll succeed quite easily. They remind us of sexy people like Go Sailor, Mirah and Tilly & The Wall.
A SMILE & A RIBBON
www.asmileandaribbon.com
There has never been a bad sounding band from Sweden. Ever. Right? A Smile & A Ribbon continue the tradition of spanking out gorgeous pop song after gorgeous pop with the traditional Scandinavian charm. They're pop, doo-wop and once again are just gagging to be danced to. They also get extra kudos for releasing their last LP through the always excellent Shelflife Records.
THE DEIRDRES
www.myspace.com/thedeirdres
Derby based glockenspiel wielding 7-piece musical tidal wave with a shared love of spooning, unfashionable glasses, poor harmonies and communal clapping.
