how long should an album be?
yes, yes, i know no album 'should' be any length, and that it depends on the artist, style, mood etc. but what sort of length do you prefer?
personally, i think if an album is pushing on 70 minutes then its almost always too long (apart from a few notable exceptions). but does this not matter if everything contained is great? likewise, when is an album too short? e.g. Song of Innocence by David Axelrod is 26 minutes long but seems to work perfectly. i've listened to it about 5 times today already. but at 26 mins did i not get value for money?
right now, i tend to be drawn to albums which are about 40 - 45 minutes long, and that seems to be the perfect length. maybe its just my short attention span. but how long do your favourite albums tend to be?
and incidentally, how long can fit on a double sided vinyl record? has the birth of 80 minute cds made everyone want to record a double-lp opus for every album? or am i just a twat?
