David Bowie - Diamond Dog
Semi Bowie marathon again, last night, at RosalitaTowers, t'was.... I took one of my housemates through Diamond Dogs (which I just love - I love that whole 70s theatrical rock period... and especially the correlation between music and fashion which on a personal level, am really interested in. Anyway, I digress..)...
I love the intro - his voice! I can clearly visualise the entire LP as a musical; the acts, the monologues, the choreography (it was all written as a stage show initially, anyhow, as we know)... I ADORE the Sweet Thing / Candidate segue which I think is one of the most haunting pieces Bowie has ever produced - the depth of his voice in Sweet Thing... argh... Wonderful.. I love the camp 'whah whah' twang of '1984'. I love the whole damned thing.
But - I'll be darned if I can actually stomach hearing Rebel Rebel on that LP. To me, it just DOESN'T WORK at all - it seems so out of place - so disjointed. I skip it each time. I kept thinking about this for a long time last night and wondered, am I alone in this view?
