Why do indie people love Scott Walker...
but not really explore other singers who sing or record in a similar way (or are clear influences)? Walker's quasi-operatic style is quite a leap from most rock/pop singing.
Clearly the lyrical content of much of Walker's material was (thanks to Brel primarily) very controversial, topical and honest (as opposed to the relatively 'harmless' jazz standards and pop songs that other 'crooners' were recording) so I suppose that could be an element. But he also recorded lots of standards and mainstream covers so I'm genuinely intrigued as to why people would love Scott Walker's singing and not want to listen to other great singers who use similar vocal stylings.
I know so many people who own all Walker's abums but own none by Sinatra, Andy Williams, Jack Jones, Tony Bennett etc etc...
Please tell me it's not just cos Jarvis likes him and he had long hair and skinny jeans...
