Gourlay Files: My Bloody Valentine @ Brixton Electric, 27/01/13

It's fair to say that no other record has influenced music in the same way as Loveless since landing at the tail end of 1991...

  • They were pretty bad

at ATP a few years back, although they got better as the weekend went on. The vocals were completely inaudible then too and I think Shields claimed technical difficulties at the time.

They were absolutely brilliant at Benicassim though so I'm thinking for now that they sound better outside where they sound has room to spread out (it was still ear burstingly loud). Going to the second Brixton gig, so hopefully they'll be on form by then...

    • I remember those ATP shows...

The Friday one wasn't the best now you come to mention it, but by Sunday they were incredible. Same with the 2008 tour. The second night at ICA wasn't as good as the first one, but every time I saw them after was phenomenal.

What a lot of people seem to have overlooked about this show is it was technically nothing more than a rehearsal, and wasn't billed otherwise. I can understand some of the frustrations - particularly if you've never seen them before - but there were definitely more positives to be taken from this show than negatives. A brand new song for starters!

  • Yeah, they were definitely

much better by the Sunday, but I think having seen them 3 days in a row takes the edge off a little bit.

I wasn't at this gig, but looking forward to Brixton regardless of any whingeing.

  • With regards the venue,

I've saw Death in Vegas there relatively recently (and Primal Scream a couple of years ago) and both times the sound has been absolutely fine.

  • So...

every other band have rehearsals and soundchecks, but MBV charge people to watch them sort their sound out? Genius! :D
