Hitting DiSers where it'll hurt us most
Our desperate need for albums to be appropriately ranked without pluralism, subjectivity or shades of grey
ah now that's a bit of a cop out
i want numbers dammit!
Why not just give us a list of 100 albums
And rank them all equally too?
I don't want a riot at my door
But I think each of these bodies of work is a different number one in its own right. Which is not to dismiss anything else in the list (they're all basically equal 2nd-10th place, really) or the DiS User poll, which of course anyone can vote for here: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4421077
none of this matters
none of this matters one jot. Dont get upset cos none of it accounts for a thing.
If you're wondering how to take all the fun outta stupid-great EOY lists
...bingo!
FFS
You go to the trouble of publishing a list of 100 (!!!) albums (not 50, not 40 oh no) but can't decide on number 1. Logically inconsistant. Just shows that in the final analysis none of them really stood out.
ha ha ha *safetywink*
In No Particularly Order.
glad my dyslexia amuses you

The only record on this page that left an impression was the Swan one
Still not sure I would say it was a record of the year. It's so long, I've only heard it a dozen times through and I still haven't absorbed it all.
if you don't see any comments on this article
that's because your page address is the short version. Conjecture over this way http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4145840-drowned-in-sounds-favourite-albums-of-2012--5-1
LOL.
you've made yourself look like a bunch o' dicks here, no mistake.
Agreed
these are mostly turd. And certainly don't merit HURRAY EVERYONE'S A WINNER.
Your generic bottom if the Internet comment
With its name calling and lack of logical reasoning is such a good look. If you're gonna waste your time groaning and griping, that's cool but why not tell us: WHAT DO YOU LIKE?
Of not if*
Certainly.
This year I enjoyed the releases from Burial, Tall Ships, Mount Eerie, Errors, Hot Chip, Grimes, John Talabot and Fiona Apple.
The five you've picked aren't terrible tbh. Just nothing to gush home about, and all with a distinct box ticking vibe to them.
Blondes and Chromatics made my list
so I feel legitimised, thank you DiS
I can't figure out Sharon Van Etten
Just sounds like the typical folk, ghostly singer songwriter stuff we've heard a thousand times. You know Marissa Nadler and various others. I don't get the acclaim. Does it grow on you should I keep listening?
:)
I'm happy Sharon Van Etten and Chromatics scored high, love those records. I'd personally swap Blondes with Julia Holter!
nothing to gush home about
Well I can't say I'm a fan of any of them apart from Swans, but I've had friends (and strangers) gush over all five of them, and I can definitely see how, if you like these records, then you'll love them and gush over them.
five meh albums
the only thign to cheer about is chromatics not getting the number 1 spot. What a bag of turrd that record is.
Calling all asymmetrical walruses
You didn't choose Mature Themes by APHG?! Facetiousness aside, you have a way better list than Pitchfork! At least you're not predictable!
interesting list
