The Stone Roses at Heaton Park, Salford, Fri 29 Jun
As reunion shows go; and let's be honest, there've been so many these past few years; this is up there with the best of them, which considering DiS walked in fearing a car crash of epic proportions and walked out pleasantly surprised, is no mean feat.

completely agree with all of that
there was a very high twat quotient though, even for this kind of gig. I enjoyed it a lot, but no more.
yep
agree with the review and the comment. It was an excellent gig and I really enjoyed it.
Went on the Saturday...
but that review is spot on. Badly organised and full of absolute bellends, but once The 'Roses came on stage it didn't seem to matter. The last six songs (when they seemed to turn the volume up) were glorious.
Dunno why they attract such a laddish crowd when you consider the first album has stuff like Sugar Spun Sister, Bye Bye Badman and Don't Stop on it.
I'd say the laddish element has more to do with what came after.
As a 6th former around the time of the first couple of singles, their fanbase was mostly the C86 & fanzine crowd back then. It's only the subsequent rise of Oasis et al that has attracted the idiots. In my opinion anyway...
Absolutely right Dom
They're unfairly tagged as a "lad band". They were so much more than that. I mean, their very early stuff had a pretty big goth following in Manchester!
Agree with the review. Plenty of reservations about the gig but they delivered...far more than I ever expected them to.
Good to see a lot of positive comments
here too, as they're not what I'd really describe as your stereotypical DiSsers band. http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4356932?community-latest
the best photo you had to use was a mid-blink shot?!?!
heaton park really isn't in salford
No, the macro that links the venues
to live reviews on the site somehow decided it was :-(
when you say laddish audience do you mean...the posh music press people hate seeing the working class have fun...'
No,
I mean laddish audience.
