"I like talking to people": Brand New's Jesse Lacey chats to DiS.
The hold music playing before the label rep connects us to Brand New front man Jesse Lacey draws a charming parallel to the old hymn that eerily opens their new record, Daisy (out September 21st).

Jesse Lacey
Not Delaney. But I guess you know that 'cos it's in the article.
I love Jesse Lacey so much that I'd probably be exactly the sort of person he'd hate. Daisy is fucking fantastic too.
indeed
just woke up to this mistake on the frontpage. fixed it now
Ace interview
I've managed to refrain from listening to the leaked version...
so friggin pumped to hear this next week. Deja Entendu and The Devil and God would most likely feature in my top 10 albums of the decade...fingers crossed this is in with a shout as well.
exactly this
it's the first time in ages i've had such restraint, i guess it's becausei want to hear it as perfectly as i can.
Nice interview
Excited about giving Daisy a listen.
He seems like such a nice guy
but I think I'd be daunted if I ever got the chance to talk to him. Even if he instigated the conversation, I'd probably think I was intruding on him.
One thing I find a little odd is that he's commented on Daisy by saying their intention was to make a record they wanted to play live, but later he says they don't want to or have many intentions to tour and that they like recording.
I met him at Nottingham Rocky City
Back in the day - supporting Finch (i know, i know) he was a nice guy. A bit chubby at the time but v.friendly. Unfortunately having heard the new album it is a real turkey and not a patch on the last :(
daisy is brill
:-)
i guess it's because i said i love them so much i dont want to hear it leaked
i want to buy it and hold it and hug it and love it.
really good interview
I'm holding out on listening to Daisy too, it's been a while since an album came out that I saw as a proper 'event', so I hope it's awesome. I'm glad they're pushing themselves, anyway.
Undecided about seeing them in January, given the venue (Wembley...really?) and having seen them 3 times in 3 years now. But then, it is Brand New.
you knwo you know what?
finch are great
i'm going because i've always missed out before
so i can't keep missing them.
exactly, it is brand new
i've got my tickets but begrudgingly, i want them to play soemwhere like hammermsith apollo again, that was one of the best gigs of my life ever and i've been to a lot of gigs.
nice interview
I don't really know the band other than a few songs but I'm inclined to investigate more after that.
Honestly
I just want to have a conversation with him. Exchange outlooks.
Like De_La_Tonk
I met Jesse on that Finch tour, in Bristol. He seemed so excited to be out and having people shouting for their songs (my friend and I yelling '70 x 7' a fair amount) and singing along.
We chatted until security started moving punters out of the venue - and rather than leaving us, he came out and continued the conversation, posed for a photo, and signed a flyer.
Contrast that with 2 years later at Brighton Concorde 2 when he was moaning onstage about how many times they'd played the YFW songs, and after the gig hid behind his laptop in the dressing room (which you could see from the road outside.
Not that I'm suggesting that he should always come out front afterwards, but it is a bit sad to see someone go from being incredibly excited and forthcoming, to seemingly insular and uncomfortable with things.
What that man needs is a good hug.
:)
Lol
Do you get bad moods sometimes too? ;-)
I don't like Daisy that much. It's okay.
DiD editors could have picked a MUCH better headline quote from that interview than "I like talking to people"!
