All of their albums are very overpriced
I've only ever bought second hand NIN CDs. it is absurd, and the record label are complete bastards, but why does Trent use them?
because
it's easier to moan than to do something about it. it's quite the artist's trait.

but seriously, he has the money and the contacts to do this all himself (or by someone else with his full guidance) should he choose. basically he's not got the impetus and he's having a wee moan. the record company guy's line is a bit crap though, but that IS how a lot of large-indies and most majors think.

The story goes like this
Successful artist spots impressionable youth agonising over one of his cds in a generic music emporium. The youth is weighing up the need to hear the latest fresh, fresh sounds against the exorbitant cost of purchasing the cd itself. Successful artist places a reassuring arm around the youth and gently explains that he isn't to blame for the high price of the cd but that faceless corporate fat-cats are raising the price to keep the youth and artist apart, otherwise the youth would too easily enjoy the fresh, fresh sounds on the cd, and not appreciate its value. The youth is genuinely moved by the artist's frankness and feels that the artist really identifies with him. Emboldened by the artist's empathy and out of sheer admiration the youth decides to purchase the artist's work and both youth and artist approach the generic music emporium shop counter where the transaction is made. The artist congratulates the youth on his acquisition and assures him he'll find the album 'killer'. They shake hands and the artist gets into his limo, which drives off at colossal speed, leaving the youth standing on his own, slowly realising that he had spent his food money and bus fare to get back home.

I agree completely. This is precisely the reason people steal music.
Stateside, the record was going for $17 a week after release. Small price compared to Australia, but regardless, it's madness. I'm never going to understand why CDs are more expensive NOW than when they were first being produced.
THIS is why I download music. Some albums are worth it, but holy fuck, my wallet has a limit.

It's his best album
since The Downward Spiral.
He's never been the worlds most poignant lyricist but his songs have always meant something. The album's a lot better than you think it is. Keep listening.
