Grizzly Bear - Knife

Brooklyn’s Grizzly Bear’s left-of-centre indie-pop meanderings might not pack as instantaneous a punch as, say, Wolf Parade or Clap Your Hands…, but the subtleties within this standalone single – pulled from the band’s recommended Yellow HouseLP of last year – are what make it such a very special listen...

  • slow cutter

Agreed, this is not an immediate impact single, but it's a slow-burning standout from the album.

    • i'm very little

aware of grizzly bear's music, but i have a copy of knife. i like it.

and i'm so internally ecstatic that they are playing leicester tomorrow you wouldn't imagine. about 4 uk dates and leicester is one, it's great!

  • Sounds like a great 50s song

Classic slow dance number given a sonically beautiful treatment.

    Has a couple drawbacks, tho:

    a) It's been out for quite a while now and no followup single has emerged from the record. Mostly because the rest of the cuts are forgettable.
    b) Lyrics are creepy and don't fit the song at all. "With every blow" "can you feel the knife" huh?
    c) Everything past the "knife" outro is superfluous noodling. This is a 3min pop song with a coda tacked on for no reason.

That might make it sound like I don't like the song. Au contraire. I agree w/the 9. Just that the song should have been a 10.

  • I am amazed

by Grizzly bear. I bought Yellow House after hearing good reviews, and at first thought it was weird but it completly washes over you-you become obsessed with its beauty wihout even realising you're listening.

Knife is genius. Buy Yellow House

  • These guys

Are amazing. Easily one of the best records of last year. A must-buy if you haven't gotten it.
