Beth Orton

Signed to label: Heavenly

A one-time bandmate of producer William Orbit, Beth Orton emerged as a solo act in the late 1990s after a long incubation period. During this time she had guested on a series of high profile releases, such as The Chemical Brothers' Exit Planet Dust (1995) and Orbit's audio serial Strange Cargo. Her debut album Trailer Park, released in 1996, revealed equal passion for both hushed acoustic folk and the electronic soundscapes of trip-hop.

In the interim between albums Orton collaborated with Terry Callier on her 'Best Bit EP' (1997) and guested on Beck's Midnite Vultures (1999). Her second critically acclaimed opus, Central Reservation (1999), continued her upward momentum and cemented her status as the queen of come-down. In 2002 she contributed to The Chemical Brothers once again on their album Come With Us, as well as releasing her most successful solo record to date, Daybreaker. After a long break, fourth album Comfort Of Strangers was released in early 2006. Tom Edwards
