Perhaps one of the best bands to emerge from Australia, The Birthday Party's anarchic style combined blues and country with harsh screetching post-punk, underpineed by singer Nick Cave's melancholic and dramatically unique vocals. Famed for their chaotic live shows, the band dissolved in 1983 amidst heroin and bitterness, yet there influence can be found in many bands who continue this violent and original punk legacy.
