After an extended period of fruitless gigging in their native Scotland, Geneva went for make or break and took their trade down to the London meat market. Nude Records snapped them up in early 1996 and the group soon became their second most successful act (after flagship Britpop boys Suede). Receiving most of their attention for lead singer Andrew Montgomery's extraordinary choirboy falsetto, they released a string of Top 40 hits and debut album Further in 1997. Fate dealt them a hard hand when, on the release of their follow-up, Weather Underground, their label was at financial breaking point. Despite a rash of positive press, the album, which saw the band entering experimental post-rock territory, bombed on its release in 2000. Geneva split soon afterwards, with Montgomery reappearing with new outfit Amityville three years later. Bassist Keith Graham and guitarist Stuart Evans formed 69 Corp, touring with The Bluetones over the summer of 2003. Tom Edwards
