Mansun: 3-CD Package Due

Mansun, Group photo We can confirm Mansun's fourth album WILL be released by Parlophone later this year. Paul Draper has announced that, as well as working on solo material, he's been patching together "loose ends since the split of the band". Titled 'Kleptomania', it will be a three-CD package of the fourth album sessions, the best of the non-album tracks from the EPs, and a third CD of rare and unreleased material hunted down at Abbey Road.

Draper, ex-vocalist with the Chester foursome, posted on mansun.net to say: "I will also be writing detailed sleeve notes for the release which should be out in the autumn of this year... New tracks appearing on 'Kleptomania' will include some of the songs that we played on the final tour in 2002, like 'Slipping Away', 'Keep Telling Myself' and 'Getting Your Way'. A full detailed running order of the whole album will be announced soon and as I get further down the road of putting this record together, I'll put up regular posts informing you of how it's progressing."

He said he's also busy "with a few writing and production collaborations at the moment. I'll be launching an official website of my own in the very near future..."

Check their website for the full statement.

But anyway - hurrah!

Once-upon-a-time there was a very good band called Mansun. They released a nice debut album.

A strange, slightly sinister but amazing 2nd album called 'Six' was also released.

The third album however, did not fare so well, as it had some very average songs. Although it did include some fine ones such as 'Butterfly', 'Comes as No Surprise', We are the Boys" and 'Soundtrack 4 2 Lovers'.

They then split up, 'twas a shame.

Anyone heard any of the new unreleased stuff? Is it any good?

As Paul said in his statement, some of the new material was played live on the band's final tour in 2002. You can probably find bootleg recordings on the 'net if you look hard enough.

Any good? I liked what I heard, yeah, though they were still kinda work in progress I think, so the versions on 'Kleptomania' may/may not be more polished

Six is one my all-time favourite albums.

Seeing them play the new material live destroyed them for me though... they even made Being a Girl slightly dreary... undoubtedly I'll still buy this however!

I hope church of the drive thru elvis is on the 'best of the ep tracks' cd. That song is so great. And the world's still open... excellent stuff.

yeah i saw them in Dudley (how rock n roll? hehe) on that tour, they were aweful. The new tracks werent bad, 'slipping away' was classic mansun, there was another i remember being great. Ive got a bootleg from Liverpool of that tour, sound is dodgy. I'll have to root the mp3s out.

Six was a fantastic album and the new stuff they played on the final tour sounded good too. But their last album was extremely boring...

always a good live band, mansun ......

Except when you have to put up with support from King Afuckingdora. *shudder*

I liked the third album... not amazing, but still better than what most of their mid-'90s peers put out at their peaks.
