Iron & Wine stretch to Such Great Heights

Sam Beam - aka Iron & Wine - is to release his version of 'Such Great Heights', originally penned and performed by The Postal Service.
The song will be available as a download and CD on July 31. Previously released as a b-side of The Postal Service's version, Beam's take on the song is enjoying increasing popularity. It was included in the movie Garden State, and was recently used on an advertisement for Ask.com in Britain, sparking a fresh wave of interest.
The single's b-side will be 'Naked As We Came', lifted from Iron & Wine's most recent (2004) album, Our Endless Numbered Days.
i dont like this version
its a bit dull innit, never heard any other iron and whine stuff though.
Power of advertising isn't it.
i like Iron & Wine but i feel that it will become more successful than the Postal Service version and fuel the argument that acoustic guitar music is by default more noble, heartfelt, worthwhile and 'proper' than electronic music.

But the original is hugely popular.
Go look at the last.fm history of most listened tracks, that song is in the top 10 nearly every week for 18 months!

It's a rubbish cover version
and I love Iron & Wine. Naked As We Came on the other hand is superb. Thanks fuck that isn't being used on adverts.

That's really the only Iron and Wine song I've heard and actually remembered. It's alright. But is his other stuff better?

I have that Postal Service single, bought randomly when some customer didn't come to pick it up. I like both versions.
I would buy the cd but I have both tracks. Naked is also a bit of a tune...

this version, i believe is better. that's only, i suppose, because i don't really like the postal service version very much.
i prefer iron & wine in general. better than anything ben gibbard does anyway.

I do like this version, but it definately doesn't add anything to the original. However, I agree that the Shins version of We Become Silhouettes is very very good. But "saccharaine, over-sugary, and just damn cringe-worthy" is, to be blunt, a load of cock.
This was played really loud

am I the only person who loves everything about this? I personally thing that this version is a great improvement of the Postal Service version which I never much liked. Plus, Naked As We Came as a B-side? Deserves more, but still, niiiiiice.

Iron & Wine is great
and has great songs. Its a shame a cover has to be relased to bring him to anyone's attention.
i love iron and wine
but this cover is a bit unimaginative. although having said that i like gozalez's cover of heartbeats so what do i know. i also heard sam beam's cover of we all us three will ride by will oldham, and that was pretty bland too. maybe covers just aren't his thing.

its an ok cover, but people people!?? the original so So much better. clearly. my pal a couple of years back unfairly said it took everything good out of the song, i think thats a tad harsh. but still, acoustic music is gay, everyone knows that..what was the question again?

I don't think, either, than it even remotely suggests people automatically choose acoustic ahead of electronic, especially given the amount of singer/songwriter types that now dabble in the electronic side of things.

Amanda Palmer from The Dresden Dolls does a cover version of this at some live shows. She did it in Dublin anyway, yo.
