Jane's Addiction: Flashmobbed in Brixton
Posted: 01 Nov '03, 12:42
A flashmob is the stupid new internet craze which isn't Friendster - it involves a group gathered together via the internet, to perform 'random' acts and then disperse quickly (see flashmob.com). Farrell sees it as a great artform, and fans who'd signed up for the mob via the band's website received a text message saying "flashmob outside Brixton Academy at 12:45am".
According to one drunk DiS spy who may have hallucinated the whole thing ("I remember singing, then puking"), around 100 fans gathered outside, were given lyric sheets to 'Wild Thing' and 'The Monster Mash', and were lead into a bizarre karaoke session by Perry Farrell.
According to another report on Teletext's 'Planet Sound', one fan asked Farrell to speak to a friend on his phone, to which Farrell dutifully obliged but in a strange "Childcatcher" type of voice.
Just another typical Halloween, then.

Jane's Addiction
If this was what most people did with flashmobs, it wouldn't be so bad. Unfortunately, most flashmobs seem to me to be webheads going 'Look! We do go out! We don't just sit in front of our PCs all day! We go out like normal people! And we do wild and wacky things! And we're so clever! Love me! Please! Stop! Come back!'
Perhaps people should organise anti-flashmob flashmobs. This would entail finding out where one will take place and waiting round the corner. Doubtless the 'mobbers' will all go there afterwards to collapse in laughter at their hilarious japes. What you do to them from there is up to you...-

Re: bugger
I thought flashmobs were all those net weirdos who can't get any legal sex and take out their frustrations by unveiling their privates to small children and pensioners?
Sorry, forgot we were talking about JA fans already.
