Godspeed You! Are Terrorists?!

Are the worlds biggest post-rock band, EVER, on their way to some human rights violating, Geneva convention ignoring, American concentration camp?

Amid war and terror alerts Montreal 9-piece, experimental kings, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, were detained for several hours whilst travelling to play a gig in Oklahoma.

The band reportedly stopped off at a petrol station, with their two vans and an equipment truck. Then what we can only guess was some obese, hot-dog munching, greasy haired, petrol station owner, rang the police, accusing GY!BE of being "potential terrorists."

After hours of interrogation, they were sent on their way, without any charges being pressed, after the Police realised the Canadians weren't a threat to American "freedom and democracy" to quote Mister.Bush on a related matter.

"I just feel very lucky that we weren't Pakistani or Korean," Godspeed frontman Efrim Menuck told Pitchfork Media. "They detained 1,000 people in California, no one knows what happened to them. We're just lucky we're nice white kids from Canada. That's what I feel lucky about."

DiScuss: Should post-rock be outlawed? What is this freedom and democracy their learned leader speaks of? Who's your favourite member of a post-rock band?

  • Godspeed You! Are Terrorists?!

Bwah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah! Chainsmoking Quebequois Liberation Front Terrorists!

Hey, if it weren't so freaking SCARY it might actually be funny.
    • Post Rock, yeah!

If post rock were outlawed there would be no Tex La Homa. And that would be BAD.

"Here With You" remains my favourite song ever.

      I love Matt Shaw.
    • Godspeed You! Are Terrorists?!

This is the by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.

Amercian police just did what godspeed accuses police forces to do... Arresting without a reason and being driven by prejudices (I guess the guy who called the police is in this matter a hero!!!)

Hope this event will give birth to the greatest song GY!BE ever recorded. I know their past albums are hard to beat, in my point of view anyway, but sometimes, when you get involved in the stupidity you are courageously fighting against, it rushes new and intenser emotions in to you. And since GY!BE is all about intensity of emotions, this ridiculous incident could well be the origin of something great.

      Long live GY!BE...

i couldnt stop laughing about this when i first heard it. Some people in america really are super paranoid. Hear about the band explosions in the sky getting stopped at the airport because of their name on their equipment boxes?
