Indie-rockin' beardos Grandaddy have elected to call it a day, sadly, so say their label V2.
A spokesperson for the band said that their forthcoming album, Just Like The Fambly Cat, out later this year, will be their last. There's no word on whether they'll tour it or not. Not, we think.
Acclaimed since their formation in 1992, Grandaddy will quite obviously be missed. I'll be sure to play 'A.M. 180' at the Barfly tonight. It's only right...
oh.
:(
sad
They rattled and rocked
They fizzled and popped
And finally they just stopped.
shame
totally gutted
although i'd rather they stopped doing it if they were no longer enjoying it, or making as great records as the sophtware slump, than carry on. they'll definiely be missed. :-(
this
is so sad.
fuck
i was listening to the excerpts from the diary of todd zilla ep last night and was thinking about the possibility of them splitting up before we got another album.
i suppose the reality is slightly better than that, but seeing as they've decided to split up after releasing this new album, can we expect anything other than a pile of crap?
i hope not. it'd be nice if they went out with a bang. and a TOUR. it'd be great if i got the chance to see them before they went their seperate ways.
what are the chances of a jason lytle solo project?
shit
A.M. 180 is beautiful :(
shame shame shame
one of the few American bands from the 90s worth bothering about
Bastards!
On my birthday too!
i'm
crying
when i get home im gonna have to dig out the software slump and listen to those songs about robots
Sad
Sad they had to split, btu anyone who likes Grandaddy should check out a band called We Yes You No www.myspace.com/weyesyouno tey are a more then adiquate replacement
or you could try
www.johnwayneshotme.nl
Grandaddy was a great band which had nothing more to tell anymore...
sad
oh well, i guess they didn't like being famous much. i'll miss the prospect that they might record another album as good as the sophtware slump
Once you've done a song like 'He's Simple, He's Dumb...'
There isn't really any way of topping it.
ah fuck it
I might play Summer Here Kids, too.
YES YES
Guess who lost the go in the go for it
Real shame. The Sophtware Slump was one of the first records I ever bought. He's Simple He's Dumb is still the best song evar.
arse
'Everything Beautiful Is Far Away' is a wonderful song, one of my favourite songs of the last ten years.
arse
this si a real shame
but like an elderly relative or poorly old family dog grandaddy haven't been what they used to be recently
still - :'(
Sad now
Always a band that I could rely on for consitantly fucking excellent output. Despite you guys not liking their last stop gap EP I really enjoyed it, so there.
R.I.P It looks like another year for good bands splitting up :(
Oh and 22-20s. Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn.
no "who cares, they were shit" comment yet?
that warms my heart.
it IS a shame - sophtware slump really is one of the beautifully sad albums ever and.. well, the beards will always be with me.
let's hope the final album is a good'un.
I'm not having a good time.
3 great albums. one shit EP. Numerous average liver performances.
But still one of my favourite bands.
RIP The 'Daddy.
*cries*
only saw them once -
stood there expecting to be completely underwhelmed and left very pleasantly surprised. might have been the sunday afternoon glastonbury sunshine that did it, though.
i've seen them 3 times :
one time great
one time average
one time awful.
Still have a great T-shirt !
"i think they want you to give in"
no we bloody don't!
oh well - i await the jason lyttle solo album with much anticipation.
:(
cries also
nooooooooooo
i only started listening to their music a year ago :'(
We still have Sophtware Slump
So at least we'll have that to hold onto....
I hear it was dinero
It didnt have anything to do with fame, or lack of ideas.
Apparently they were just sick of slogging their guts out and not making any money from it!
