They might have only a single album behind their scrawny frames, but Maximo Park are already limbering up for a rarities release.
Missing Songs is scheduled for a February 20th release, and features b-sides and demos; HOWEVER the album will not be released in the UK, it's a Europe only record. Basically, a bunch of tracks that didn't make A Certain Trigger. Tracklisting looks like this:
A19
Isolation
My Life in Reverse
Fear of Falling
I Want You to Leave
A Year of Doubt
Trial and Error
Stray Talk
Hammer Horror
Apply Some Pressure (Original Demo Version)
Graffiti (Original Demo Version)
Once, a Glimpse (Original Demo Version)

WHat the fuck??
:-|
are their b-sides so far
any good?
well
if you don't like maximo park, you wont like the b-sides.
they're very..maximo park.
oooooooooooh
yay! :)
i hope there's more spoken word on these tracks, oh how it made me laugh.
Fucking hell
I'm as big as Maximo fan as the next man, but this is hardly an essential release, is it? Still, it beats a remix album / extra track tacked-on edition, so I guess some kind of credit is owed for that.
comments on the songs?
as guntrip has asked what are people's comments on the bsides?
I've heard
Fear Of Falling. It sounds like 60s surf-pop a la The Beach Boys. Kinda.
I think it;s good news :-)
Those original demo versions are better than the album versions (according to me), and I like some of them song. I want you to Leave is great.
WEll
Sometimes it's nice to have 'em all in one place, but I guess you could do that with a CD-R and a rewriter just as well (providing you have one of course).
i want you to leave?
was that written after i want you to stay, then?
is this a cash-in
or what?
nope
it's clearly not a cash-in because it'll sell bugger all, like that Silent Alarm remix album. sold about 18 copies. no money to be made in that. i reckon it's just something for completists. maybe.
well i like it
because i rather love A Certain Trigger and the thought of 9 more Maximo songs fills my heart with glee.
also
as per silent alarm remixed - i imagine it's primarily aimed as an overseas release, where lots of places don't get singles like we do in the UK. the fact that it's being released here is an aside, probably just to stop ripoff import copies flooding UK shops.
err
except the Silent Alarm Remix album is only slightly less as good as the actual lp.
I'm not a fan.
But wasn't this already released last summer?..
Virgin
already has this in. I saw it in there yesterday. Might be a fuck-up on my local's part though.
I think
this collection of songs are better than the ones on A Certain Trigger - my favourite Maximo Park song is I Want You To Leave.
Well they played
most of those songs when I saw them at the Hammersmith Palais, and I've they're alright. It's exactly as the description says though, songs that weren't good enough to get onto A Certain Trigger. No spoken word tracks there, m'fraid.
cash in? Yes!
Honestly, most bands b-side albums aren't that good even when they've had a long career, for example Green Day,Nirvana etc... so what makes these one hit wonders think that theirs will be any good after one album?
I've heard a couple of the b-sides, and it sounds like every other shit Maximo park song.
fear of falling
is ace.
Ahahahahaha....
Ahahahahahahaha ... sorry ... ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I say
Lovely. The B-sides I've got are as good as the album tracks, so this might be rather ace...
Eh?...
I saw this in HMV on Saturday.
yes
it's already been released; hmv has had it for a while now. odd.
the songs aren't bad; some are really good (if you like maximo park). a19, fear of falling, & year of doubt (i adore this song, although a bit morissey/smithy rather than the standard maximo sound) are my favorites.
but yes, a bit of a cash in. quite lame.
anyone know how much of this is the band doing or the label's doing? thoughts?
year of doubt
As far as I know, it (“Missing Songs) was originally released for the Aussie & Japanese markets where their UK singles (on these tracks originally appeared) are only available as imports.. If sales of the EP were doing well in those markets and/or as an Import in the UK that could of lead to the band/label opting for a release of it domestically...
As its been said, the songs fit the general Maximo construct, so whether you care or not would depend on if you happen to like their sound.. If you liked the album - pretty much everything here is as good/better than most anything on ‘Certain Trigger’ - and didn’t buy the singles (which would probably cost you 3 times the price of the EP) this would probably be well worth the dosh..
Oh, and personal honorable mention for “Hammer Horror which no one named here as of yet.. am I the only one who thinks its one of the better tracks they’ve done? “A19 as well..
I have already heard some of those
like demo versions and Fear Of Falling. They should have stuck the original I want you to stay on it too. I wouldn't buy it because they're doing new songs and the new album is coming late this year.
already out - je crois
I think I've already seen this in a record shop in France. Pretty sure it wasn't a promo, either.
