Sack Sven

well, I guess this thread is inevitable after the debacle of last night. We have quite clearly lost the plot and I'm not usually one to call for the England managers head but the last 3 games have showed that Sven just hasn't got what it takes, anyone else agree?

  • Re: Sack Sven

if he had any pride he would have resigned after last night.

but he doesn't and he gets £5million a year so he needs to be pushed.
    • Re: Sack Sven

Well then i hope someone gives him a bloody big push!!
  • Re: Sack Sven

Ordinarily I get quite irate with the sort of people who call for a manager's head after one or two bad games. It annoys me, and is symptomatic of the way that football and society is going at the moment.

But this is different. Sven quite clearly has no idea what's going on. If he's behind in a game, he gets confused and lost. Last night really annoyed me. Any chance that we can put some chances away? Or even create some chances in the first place? We've looked awful for the last three games, got lucky against Wales and got what we deserved last night. Something needs to change, and soon.
    • Re: Sack Sven

What exactly does sven do? He doesn't run the training sessions, he sat and said nothing last. Mclaren seemed to do everything!!

      5 million a year? Pffffft!
      • Re: Sack Sven

i can't think of anyone i'd want to replace him though.

don't think mclaren's right for the job, he's better as a coach it seems.
sam asllardyce doesn't have the tactical ability to manage on an international level.
        maybe someone like alan curbishly...
        • Re: Sack Sven

Carlton Palmer as international player manager.
          • Re: Sack Sven

            pob?
          • Re: Sack Sven

I'll do it! My champ manager record is second to none!

Warn for England! I was Warn to do it.
            • Re: Sack Sven

I once scored a 30 yard-free kick. Give me the job!
          • Re: Sack Sven

Get Graham Taylor back...he was quality...anyone remember Englands awesome ability in the 94 world cup....we were mint
        • Re: Sack Sven

the england manager is putting the world cup hopes in danger just so beckham can stand in the centre of midfield knocking fancy balls around

the talent of lampard, gerrard and rooney is being completely nuetralised to accomodate beckham in the side. The influence this guy has over the team is unbelievable. he is too slow to play on the right now, so they squeeze him in centre mid, and lampard and gerrard get made to look crap because they simply dont know what their roles are.

axe beckham, switch to 4-4-2 and they will start winning again
          • Re: Sack Sven

you aren't david mellor are you?

i was just speaking to him and he said exactly the same thing...
            • Re: Sack Sven

              You're such a celebrity whore!
              • Re: Sack Sven

CC is a celebrity? And when did we start calling him whore?
                • Re: Sack Sven

The moment he started dressing up in a chelsea shirt for David Mellor. Or was that Antonia de sancha? Always get them muddled up.
                  • Re: Sack Sven

i would never get dressed up for david mellor.

                    he prefers me naked.
          • Re: Sack Sven

Axe beckham! Great idea. I'd rather mace him though.
          • Re: Sack Sven

not a bad assessment tuco - maybe you should be manager

            but seriously
give Tony Adams the job alongside McLaren with Stuart Pearce as assistant

that would put a bit of fire into the dressing room - and some experience of what it's like these days to be an international footballer

Sven should have been sacked after the faria alam stuff - it's just too much of a distraction to have that sort of thing going on behind the team...
            • Re: Sack Sven

Tony Adams would be awful! He couldn't even take Wycombe out of League 2 last season, and resigned because he couldn't cope with the pressure! He'd be a gibbering wreck after two games!
            • Re: Sack Sven

What about Martin O'Neill? I know his wife is ill but the England manager job isn't as full time as a club manager's.
              • Re: Sack Sven

actually - I thought o'neill should have got the job when sven got the nod

and I think Tony Adams would be different in a job like the england one - mainly because he'd have a hotline to Wenger - but also because he has some solid playing experience behind him at that level
                • Re: Sack Sven

We still would have lost to Northern Ireland if O'Neill had got the job. In mysterious circumstances...
  • Re: Sack Sven

I think this is totally unfair. Sven is trying really hard to be a great womaniser and a good football coach. It can't be easy, it really can't.
    • Re: Sack Sven

That sounds like the voice of experience.
    • Re: Sack Sven

thanks anschul!! i try my best and if me and david mellor are along the same lines of thinking....i must be doing something right!!!

alan hansen made me laugh at half time 'david beckham showed a range of passing that we will probably never see in our lifetime again'.........and what exactly did that get england?? nothing.....'hollywood passes'....being floated over lampard and gerrards heads giving them no ball to use and no time to get on the end of something. he was even making a straight forward pass look a lot more than it was by chipping it and soort of putting his arms out as he passed the ball.

He is a great master of disguise, is beckham. he knows he is not the player he was, and he covers this up by influencing the manager to play him in a position where he doesent have to get involved physically.....and he can look good by doing the one thing he still can manage
      • Re: Sack Sven

He should have gone after the Brazil debacle in 2002 and if not then, certainly after all the sordid revelations about his private life.
Sadly, because qualification from one of the worst qualifying groups was almost inevitable before a ball was even kicked, he will still be here when we go to Germany, where we will play badly, scrape through the group stages before going out to a hotly disputed penalty/free kick/offside decision (delete where applicable) and Eriksson will once again be absolved of any blame and pick another £4 million contract.
        • Re: Sack Sven

          Agreed^

He's certainly got no chance of getting the chelsea job now

  • Re: Sack Sven

    I want Jose Mourinho. NOW.
    • Re: Sack Sven

      The housewives/thom_fa's favourite.
      • Re: Sack Sven

        thom_fa isn't a housewife? :O
        • Re: Sack Sven

          maybe a fishwife?? ;-)
        • Re: Sack Sven

All of my illusions/fantasties of thom_fa darning peoples socks and getting the roast dinner ready have been SHATTERED.
          • Re: Sack Sven

i wanted him to be my housewife :(
            • Re: Sack Sven

Hehe, new DiS board: DiSers Wives. Featuring thom_fa in fishnets basting his turkey.
              • Re: Sack Sven

I have some shots of me on all fours trying to remove a stubborn stain from the carpet!
                • Re: Sack Sven

Are you wearing rubber gloves? *gets ready to faint as dream comes true*
                  • Re: Sack Sven

of course, I wouldn't want the chemical cleaner to stain my nails! I only had them done last week!
                    • Re: Sack Sven

                      *faints*
  • Re: Sack Sven

Does it really matter that much? Changing the England manager has never really delivered anything before. All he has to do is pick the team ...
    • Re: Sack Sven

      And motivate them.

I've decided, if Argyle can't get them I want Mad Dog (Martin Allen) or Ian Holoway in charge of England, there will be plenty of passion then and they will probably do it for peanuts!

      And they are good managers.
      • Re: Sack Sven

Plus they are both sooo quotable!
        • Re: Sack Sven

A rotating system of Alan Hansen and Wayne Rooney as player/managers.
      • Re: Sack Sven

        why do players need motivating?
        • Re: Sack Sven

coz they're too fuckin thick to realise that playing for England is more than just earning your £

A football manager also man-manages his players, "a productive workforce is a happy one" so to speak, he also chooses the formation, oversees training, chooses the best squad from the best players in the country, watches players for form and selects the team accordingly, makes substitutions based on the pattern of the game, answers to the media, give press conferences, represents the team throughout the world.

oh and shags secretaries, at least that's one part of the job he is doing well.
          • Re: Sack Sven

there's only selecting the formation thats remotely controversial at the moment. i think most of the country would pick the same side, save for one or two objections ..... things like training and tactics can't have much of an impact because the players don't spend enough time together.

international football's not proper football, anyway ...
            • Re: Sack Sven

              really? define 'proper' football then

I'd be here for ages describing what I would do and I can't be bothered. All i would say is, give the youth a chance and if you play well, you keep your place, like all decent club managers. You know which players I'm talking about

Sven selects teams on reputations and experiments with formation in competitive games. Pathetic really considering the wedge he brings home.
              • Re: Sack Sven

nah, i just don't understand why some people get really wound up by international football. it's always struck me as being rather london-centric too. i'd rather my club stayed in the premiership this season than england qualified for the world cup so, y'know ...

the thing is, i'd probably pick roughly the same team as Erikson but I'd shoot Joe Cole and play Downing instead. I'm sure most people have similarly small quibbles but maybe i'm wrong ..
      • Re: Sack Sven

I'm with Tom, I want Ian Holloway for England.

The man used pulling ugly women as an analogy for a 1-0 win. MAKE HIM A GOD.
        • Re: Sack Sven

i would have thought alan curbishley would be a good fella to have a crack at the england job. he has done wonders with charlton
          • Re: Sack Sven

i agree. charlton would have got into europe last season if darren bent had been playing for them so i expect them to do so this year.
        • Re: Sack Sven

was that the thing about "not a great night, but at least we got a woman into a taxi" ?
          • Re: Sack Sven

            Indeed it was :D
            • Re: Sack Sven

Drop Beckham and Lampard and bring back David Batty and Nick Barmby. Retro England Teams rock.
              • Re: Sack Sven

retro mustacheod england team i think
                i.e. des walker.
shit cant think of any more, help me out
                • Re: Sack Sven

yeah, let's have some Carlton Palmer, Geoff Thomas, Nick Barmby action!!
                  • Re: Sack Sven

Terry Butcher + Trevor Stevens too. And Lee Dixon.

Also... Kerry Dixon. But he has a girl's name.
                    • Re: Sack Sven

They cannot/will not sack Sven cos it'd cost about 5 million in compensation. And you just know the Ikea bastard would claim it

There's only one solution. Murder. If we get Steve McClaren to slip a little poison in Sven's post match whiskey, then problem solved.

That'd therefore pave the way for Cristian Gross to lead us back to the glory days of '66
                      • Re: Sack Sven

retro team...based on all who had england caps..

                        • Re: Sack Sven

                          Andy Sinton!
                        • Re: Sack Sven

                          • Re: Sack Sven

graham taylor gave out caps for fun!!!

he took a squad of about 50 on a tournament to australia...including deane, salako, wallace, palmer, sinton, geoff thomas.....and other assorted donkeys!!!
                            • Re: Sack Sven

They would have done better than the cart horses on display last night.

                              Deane and Wallace... DREAM TEAM!!
                          • Re: Sack Sven

Colin Cooper deserves a mention. And Steve Guppy?
                            • Re: Sack Sven

                              Nothing wrong with Colin Cooper.

Of the current crop, David James, Jamie Carragher and Owen Hargreaves don't exactly make it into the top 100 players to ever wear an England shirt and there's also Eriksson's fascination with a certain Mr Heskey.
        • Re: Sack Sven

          It was a 3-0 win.
          • Re: Sack Sven

I think he's doing a fantastic job, and that he should be kept on until England get to the play-off's and beyond. Leave him alone.
