Over the last year I have either started to enjoy more and more obscure bands, going out every week and discovering new and wonderful things OR DiS has started to really chew on the big wigs member.
How come all I ever seem to read about is Rolo Tomassi, who I am sorry but really aren't that good, Jonny Foreigner, anything on or formerly from BSM, and essentially whoever NME are pluggin this week?
Maybe I have become a muso snob, or maybe I am just not 'down with the kids'.
Is anyone else finding this? Where are you going for news other than DiS?
why not post about these bands
then?
who...
are your obscure bands?
From his profile:
The Moody Blues
Buck's Fizz
Adam & The Ants
'Handsome' Joe Higgins and the Sutcliffe Six
Terry Nutkin's Spjunky Bjackpjack
move in. now.
I was going to move tonight.
instead I have opted to see BATMAN
BATMAN BATMAN BATMAN
SEE YOU TOMORROW! DO YOU WANT A LAMP?
i love lamp
where and when you watching batman? i want some of that motherbeatin' action
i don't like alot of the bands discussed here,
but a wesbite can't cater for the entirety of every person's tastes.
There are some articles i'm interested in, there are some i'm not...that's what makes it such a good site, is that it handles Elbow to Slipknot to Atmosphere: a little bit of something for everyone
agreed
I read a lot of music boards/sites, and partake in a few. I haven't really discovered any artist that I like through DiS (that I recall), but I still like to know what is going on, what people are talking about, and the like.
It's just a phase.
I think you are right, but as Jack_El says, you need to post about the good bands you find. It's the collective listening of all users sieveing the wheat from the chaff that makes this site so good.
In a while, people will then post about how only obscure bands are ever mentioned and how it is putting off new users who can't get involved.
the music board here
is pretty damn broad any thing from black metal to noise, minimal to shoegaze. This board pretty much has music covered...
... pretty much...
... and if it doesn't just talk about it and it soon will.
there is alot of BSM talk
but let's be honest, there are some great bands on that label.
I enjoy
BSM yeah they are wicked.
I haven't really heard that much about them lot for a little while though.
British School of Motoring?
Big Scary Monsters
Tubelord
This Town Needs Guns
Black Fish
Secondsmile
lots more
Big Scary Monsters
Its a record label...
This is what I was thinking.
I was confused.
there have always been
schools of bands that DiS has loved. when i started posting five/six years ago it was biffy clyro, colour of fire, kinesis, miss black america etc...
also, lol at "more and more obscure bands". WELL DONE YOU.
bigwigs
this time last year we were the only site bigging up panda bear, no age, abe vigoda and health. earlier this year we wuz the only people going on about el guincho, times new viking and bon iver.
then there are the bills mike puts together at the DiScover club which have alsorts to teeny bands.
i think the problem is we don't highlight things we heart in the right way. this is something i'm very aware of and hoping to remedy with a new site in the coming months.
so there. lulz. byz.
earlier this year we wuz the only people going on about el guincho, times new viking and bon iver.
really? really really? not pitchfork?
uhhh
...... okay.......
MORE sites?
?
I would rather hear about the bands you like
otherwise it's just another whinging negative thread.
Also i know so little about Rolo Tomassi until now I though it was a persons name not a bans
rolon deodorant
All taken in and account. But to be honest, I don't want to write about music I have found, I want to see what somebody else is talking about.
I haven't really truly 100% enjoyed anything off BSM since the King Lifting Eschuscha split and the Jairus EP... well ok MMISL is a given.
The things I am listening to at the momento are new and old admittedly.
Cult of Luna - Eternal Kingdom
Latitudes - Bleak Epiphanies in slow motion
Rinoa - Rinoa
Botch - Anthology of Dead Ends
Catherine Wheel - Fermente
Ride - Chelsea Girl
Swerve Driver - Mezcal Head
botch
^5
I'd do a retrospective but no bugger would read it.
Catherine Wheel?!
No bugger should be listening to it.
push the wheel
hey, they had a handful of good tunes? but they were by no means perfect. can't wait to see Six by Seven supporting Swerve Driver in September.
Botch retrospect... thought it was obligatory for everyone to have one by now, doesn't it sit on the mantelpiece with My Bloody Valentine, Refused and Minor Threat?
Rolo tomassi are amazing you flid.
Not really
some bands are just more popular than others (obviously) and DiS is very musically diverse in terms of the music that is discussed.
I think they need a strong editorial line
any site does, and DiS is nice because it vaguely straddles somewhere between the underground and the mainstream.
"straddles somewhere between the underground and the mainstream"
<must. resist. max mosley joke.>
did you see on channel 4 news last night where they had a dominatrix on
to talk about how the news of the world was unfairly portraying s&m and she was called 'Mistress Dominance' or something
i am finding this too.
ish.
