Blur's winning of the chart that week over 'Roll With It' was a curse in the Oasis Blur feud.
Blur went American, then lost all their fans, while arguably keeping critical acclaim with Think Tank.
But then Damon Allbran joined a silly novelty cartoon band, and Coxon became a landfill indie artiste.
Although Oasis lost all critical respect, their popularity flourished as seen by their chart success and consistent stadium out-selling.
And now, Mr Pretentious is involved in an opera about chimps.
Make your mind up, Allbran. One minute you're a cockney Jack-The-Lad. Next, you're an American grunge sk8brdr, then you're a cartoon character, and now you're just a crazy old man.
Long live Liam Gallagher.
Yes
But Liam is a monkey turd
They both
reside inside their own arseholes.
Yeah
thing is
name one good song written by Liam Gallagher...
yeah
this thread should be called poo vs piss
that's not exactly what I meant
There should be a special
board for the users whose sentiments are repeatedly lost in translation, like you and lyle.
So you couldn't think of a decent song
penned by Liam then?
Songbird
lol
Little James
Fooking classic!
"Live for your toys even though they make noize la la lal la la la la la la la la"
They're both pricks.
Damon writes better songs than Liam though.
WTF?
I'm sorry but Albarn has more creativity in his index fingers than Liam Gallagher has at all. What's wrong with somebody progressing as an artist and exploring new challenges? Churning out turgid album after turgid album trying to recover the magic of over 10 years ago is very wrong.
Long live Damon Albarn.
Long live Chorlton & The Wheelies
Better than any band
I knew
the nephew of the guy who did the music for Chorlton and The Wheelies. I had a go on his Omnichord.
interesting
according to wikipedia, Chorlton and The Wheelies was named after the location of the animation studio - Chorlton-cum-Hardy.
Missed opportunity. Could have been called Chorlton Cums Hard.
The problem with Damon
is that in his head he's a hugely talented and influential contemporary composer, whereas he's actually just an ex-drama student with an ear for a good tune.
nail/head interface
.
I'm quite fond of Noel
except he keeps ruining it by spouting off with some misguided rubbish (Jay Z off late). In interviews he seems funny, self aware and genuine. He also has a fine line in withering stares, perhaps developed after years off putting up with Liam's shenanigans.
So skip to the end - the person who sells the most records without ever changing is the best?
Plus I don't think it's fair to really compare Blur and Oasis as they had separate 'ideologies' so to speak when it came to making music. Oasis have been happy to trot out that retro sound and be crowd pleasers where as Blur were more about adapting and evolving their sound to do different things. This is where your construct falls down a bit - people are allowed to change and grow up. If Albarn was still doing the cockney thing today it would be embarassing - a lot like Noel slagging off new bands when he has an album out in an attempt to drum up (unneeded) publicity.
Basically - Oasis - ripping off 2 bands
Blur - ripping off I'd probably say 6 over the course of their career.
Also why Liam? He's just an Ian Brown impersonator - Noel basically IS Oasis
Liam's got a decent voice but cock-all else though.
No brains, wit, imagination or talent beyond that voice.
For 'Little James' alone, Liam loses.
Liam's voice is shocking!
He can't sing any more. Not one bit.
He sounded alright on the stuff I heard off the last album
Oh well. If that's gone, then he really does lose this battle. I used to be a huge fan of his voice.
Watch some videos of the 2005 tour, preferably Argentina.
It's abysmal, and this deeply upsets me.
damon albarn
is fantastic. constantly creative, ever-inventive, and isn't afraid to alienate people in order to make the music he wants to make. I saw Monkey at the theatre and it was absolutely breath-taking. The last time he put a foot wrong was during 1996.
Think Tank for the win
And Damon is ana essex boy, not somne northern neanderthal. It's a lesser neanderthal yes, but one which I have a regional tie to.
I'd
appreciate it if you didn't use the fact that he's northern to criticise him, you pompous twat.
Haha
something about Ocean Colour Scene
fuck off
Damon Albarn is a genius. His devotion and love of music is incredible. Plus Gorillaz are no novelty band, when you hear the depth and beauty of the albums.
Liam on the other hand is a grade A cunt.
lies lies lies
the problem with the post morning glory material is that the studio polish does it no favours. the songs are still there, but the band's fire and performance is lost completely. oasis need to go back to basics. blur, or anything damon has been involved with, make good, intelligent music, but none of it tingles the spine and brings the goosebumps like oasis. that's the real test right there - what the music makes you physically feel. liam's voice and persona is a huge part of that. liam wins.
Don't fucking
patronizzzzZZZ
Good to see this as the "Current" hot topic
In other news
Levelling The Land has gone platinum and Jesus Jones have sold out Madison Square Garden.
You and Jesus bloody Jones.
:D
I can't stop. I think I saw in a review the other day someone compared Born Ruffians, or some other hip new band, to them, and now I can't stop thinking about them. It's starting to ruin my social life.
Queen Mum -
still dead.
I don't think this dude
ever brings up a subject that isn't at least 10 years old.
Which is strange considering he seem so young, bless him.
Don't forget The Good the Bad and the Queen.
Or The collaboration with Michael Nyman on the soundtrack to the film "Raveous".
Soz mate, Damon is about 500 trillion times more talented than Liam.
Not that I am not a fan of Liam, I like him a lot!
this is
the most irrelevant discussion i've ever read.
Almost as irrelevant as...
you're contribution to the discussion
i think
this can all be summed up with a glorious microsoft paint masterpiece that i did as a wee 14-year-old really bored at school:
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v136/227/42/1502310168/n1502310168_30035081_6100.jpg
liam is shite
coxon is cool
noel is cool
albarn is meh
blur are better
Alex is nice to look at
with LOVELY hair and he makes cheese. Rock&roll!
even though
Oasis have got flaccid in their rock potency and Noel is like your past it Uncle at your cousin's wedding wearing Ray Bans and a leather jacket I retain a soft spot for Liam, the cheeky scamp.
Damon is beyond smug. He had a wobbly at Lauren Laverne on a telly interview last night cos she referred to his cultural vulture tourism in Afrobeat as "world music".
What a tit.
Oi,oi!
Get some exercise!
mmm
it's called re-inventing yourself...something oasis would not know anything about...
bugger
just realised i missed Imagine on Damon's opera
Basically Liam Gallagher has been irrelivant since 1998
Damon has since produced some of his best work.
Oasis produced two great records at best.
Blur produced 4 or 5 and then Damon has done a shit load more.
who gives a shit if Damon 'can't make his mind up'. If his ideas are as great as they're turning out one by one, let him be a jack-of-all-trades
plus The Good, The Bad and The Queen looked fucking cool in their top hats
scanning through all of
this I can't actually believe people still give a toot.
Wham! or Duran Duran?
Why compare the two?
Liam is nothing more than the frontman of a band. Damon, while being a frontman, also did songwriting and production duties with various bands / projects (I'm not saying that that makes him better, I'm just saying). The comparison doesn't make sense.
Liam
wins on comedy value alone. Albarn's probably a more amiable creative bloke though.
I wish it was 1995 again...
I remember this at the time...
i must've been 13 when the singles went head-to-head. I was in a car (an old Escort, the square type) with my friend who was older, two girls and a mate who was just always there; a kind of Chunk-type figure. We all loved Oasis and found this really big hilly street. It's actually a proper road, just a really steep drop. We all said that we'd take the handbrake off and if it was Oasis at No1 we'd brake and listen, if not we'd just see what happened. We let the car go, we were beyond half-way, i can't remember who was number three but it finished, Foxy started chatting... "here's number two....it's Bl....Oasis' <cue the start of Roll With It>, we all freaked out, but at the time were still happy because well, we were excited, and at the time that was their best song. We forgot to hit the brakes until we made the flat, then we all panicked and grabbed it, stopping just before the wall. Everyone was buzzing, singing, going mental. It's still probably one of the best moments of my life. If they'd have knocked it on the head after Morning Glory they'd have been legends. They didn't, and they're not, but for three years they were absolutely brilliant, and no matter what bands i like now, or what my friends pretend they like, putting their early work down as generic lad-rock is just ignorant. For at least two years they were the only band of any talent at all in Britain.
to answer your question...
Blur were the better band, but they never made a great record, Oasis did. Liam, just.
Damon Albarn
is far superior to Ape boy in every way. Yes, he's a smug moody bastard. But so are a lot of creative types. Doesn't stop me enjoying their music. Liam Gallagher is an agressive bastard, and thats about the most interesting thing you can say about him.
This is a great anecdote.
Shurely this should be Noel vs Damon
and shurely this should be some sort of time warp that we're in?
Buddy Holly vs Eddie Cochrane next please.
damon
likes MF DOOM and Del, he wins
The thing with Liam
is that if he'd actually had something resembling an education, he'd be a lot more articulate and interesting. I always get the impression that he gets stifled or doesn't really know how to word what he wants to say. He's a very intelligent fella, if not somewhat illiterate. Having said that, I can't imagine Noel spent anymore time at school than Liam did so I'm probably talking shite.
Albarn is obviously the more talented musically, but Liam's voice in the mid-90's, specifically between '94 and '97, is probably the greatest thing I've ever heard, so he wins.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaAI-u8Zt-U
Shame these days he's totally lost it.
Liam has a great voice, or had
Albarn always seems to be far too calculating to me. He treats his music as a series of career moves.
Can't We Just Stop
Arguing about music and musicians that stopped being relevant over a decade ago?
If we stopped arguing about irrelevancies
we wouldn't have a forum.
Who defines relevance?
People are obsessed with relevance. Public Image Ltd are 'relevant' if you think about their influence on Foals and Bloc Party, and their last album came out sixteen years ago. In other words, STFU.
Damon is far more interesting
you must see this.
stop trying to justify your irrational gay love of liam gallagher.
I just got back from Monkey.
It was awesome, especially the music.
DAMON HAS WIN.
I saw the Monkey thing too...
there was a great bassline that kicked in during the opening animation but didn't last too long; the rest of the music was very respectful of the story's cultural origins.
I think this argument rests on the idea that musicians would probably find Damon more interesting whilst non-musicians like Liam because of his attitude (which sadly doesn't make great music).
I grew up with this shit so i remember it all really well.
Damon Albarn wins hands down. Musically braver, more innovative and inventing. To be honest I like Oasis's 1st two albums and that is it. You haven't even made a case for why Liam Gallagher wins and that says it all. Your argument to say the least is flimsy. If selling out Stadia and being popular is your only metric of being good then fuck off and listen to Meatloaf, Elton John and Simply Red then.
stop trying to justify your irrational
STENCH!
fuck off halfwit
were you dropped on your head when you were a baby? Cock.
Ironic.
Have another look at who I replied to, genius.
I wonder what Menswear are up to.
er...
I think it'd be Damon in terms of musicianship. Given that at least half of blurs album's are brilliant, both Gorillaz albums are atleast interesting pop ideas and his opera is actually pretty impressive.
Compare this to Liam throwing out AIDS wishes, shaking a tambourine and writing about 10% of Oasis' music it's a no contest.
I'm pretty sure it was Noel who wished AIDS upon Damon & Alex.
The rest of your description of Liam is correct, though.
you're right
they're pretty much interchangeable though.
Wrightylew v Liam
instead.
dead heat.
Repetitive, boneheaded, predictable, lot of growing up still to do.
Baldy
^
lol
LOL
there are a few oasis songs i think awesome, but the 'feud' belongs in 1995 and if you're talking about sheer talent than damon clearly wins. i'm guessing liam is a nicer person though.
Wrightylew
On another website are you known as LiamGallagherOasis? If you are then you are a bit of a knob end. If you're not then oh well, no offence like guv....
Yeah.
I'm also TheHamburglar and NoMoreImmigrants.
