Yes

Yes.
Yes.
Icky Mettle = one of my favourite albums ever (after about 4 months with it).

You could try

Heavy Vegetable
P.E.E
Hard-Ons (Awful name, but get This Awful Place, you love it!)

Yes. A of L are fucking great........

Icky Mettle and Vee Vee are the two albums you need. The 'Vs. the greatest of all time' e.p is also quite possibly the finest e.p ever too, no exaggeration!

i have

all the nation's airports which is good

wooo yeah!

i need to check these out too.

What?

What "banner"?

What?

banner,genre

whatever

What genre?

"Bands from the USA that weren't in the charts"?

"80's/90's College Indie"

if you've heard 5 or more of the above bands/know a tiny bit about independent american music around that time, then you know exactly what i mean.

you'd probably like Sammy too

Go for Tales of Great Neck Glory.
I've got their s/t too. Not sure if they've got any more mind.

whats the best

dinosaur jr album? I have 'where you been' and 'green mind', am I missing out on anything else?

You're living all over me

And Bug.

And find the take a run at the sun single.

I OWN THAT.

It's all I own. I win at Dinosaur Jr.

They've got singles and E.Ps

But only two albums I think. Then Jesse is off to Laptop.

Great neck glory is superb. Like a super-poppy Pavement.

well

I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is my favourite album, its near perfect.

though a good starting place would probably the Prisoners of Love 3CD best of/rarities thing. but make sure you definately get the 3CD version rather than the 2CD, there is great stuff on the extra disc!

Noooooooo!!!

Don't start with Prisoners of Love! In fact, don't even *think* about buying it until you've got 4 or 5 albums and want to pick up some rarities. Start with I Can Hear The Heart... or I Am Not Afraid Of You..., then choose your next purchases based on whether you want noisy Yo La or poppy Yo La or dreamy Yo La.

i think if the 1st yo la tengo song i ever heard

was the first song off I Am Not Afraid Of You... i'd never listen to them again

that album just isnt that good compared to I Can Hear the Heart and May I Sing With Me.

plus Prisoners of Love has the "hit(s)"

What

no love for And then nothing turned itself inside out, or Painful? Both fine records, with the first one edging it for me.

Vaselines

maybe? I just got it and only skipped thru the tracks, but it sounds like something you might consider. (My impression was 7/10 good but not great).

I shall look for Archers of Loaf, thanks for the tip above, eh.

legit jag!

THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH COVERS

A half-day spectacular showcasing the cream of the current crop of British alt-rock, and paying tribute to the American greats of the late 80's and early 90's that influenced them. Bands will play a minimum of two covers each by their chosen band, interwoven with their own lesser known indie rock masterpieces.

STUFFY AND THE FUSES are PIXIES
Britain's premier drummer / lead vocalist (since the sad retirement from music of Phil Collins) Stuffy, and his band The Fuses, make the mammoth trek from ... round the corner, to take on Boston's finest The Pixies. Expect crashing drums, angular guitars, pounding bass, whirring keyboard, plenty of alt-rock related banter. And some Pixies songs!

4 OR 5 MAGICIANS are GUIDED BY VOICES
Fresh from gaining a Lamacq single of the week for recent 7-inch 'Change The Record' and an interview as his 'New Favourite Band', Brighton's 4 or 5 Magicians return to the Windmill Brixton to become Dayton, Ohio lo-fi rock giants for the night. Expect a full 40 minute Guided By Voices set comprising songs from the classic 1987 - 1995 period!

GIANT ROBOT AND THE CITY OF TOKYO as ARCHERS OF LOAF
Norwich has produced some great bands over the past few years, but sadly, due to the A11 being such a shit road, they haven't got out enough. Well rejoice then, as we bring you probably the best of the lot, Giant Robot and the City Of Tokyo, for a rare London gig (and last before vocalist/guitarist Mikey relocates indefinitely to America).
Giant Robot are so good that it is they and only they who have been given the accolade of doing some blistering indiepunk anthems from Chapel Hill, North Carolina's ARCHERS OF LOAF - the Greatest Of All Time. Fact.

PALE MAN MADE as SONIC YOUTH
Pale Man Made are from Newcastle but are making the arduous 5 (or 6, or 7) hour journey to London to play for us. They recently gained a Huw Stephens album of the week for their debut record 'Oh My Treasured Things', and have a drummer who is the double of Steve Shelley. Fittingly, they will perform a couple of the hits of New York alt-rock pinoeers Sonic Youth for us, amongst their own melody-laden pop gems.

FAVOURS FOR SAILORS as WEEZER
Adopted Londoners Favours For Sailors always sounded great as a three piece, but since recruiting ex-4 or 5 Magicians guitarist Matt Hayward (now known as Maltese Falcon) to the fold they have opened up a veritable pandora's box of guitar possibilites. One of which being that they can take on replicating the famous duelling guitar assualt of Californian geek-rock legends Weezer.

DUTCH HUSBAND as SEBADOH
Bournemouth is the last place you'd expect to find the best band in the UK, but if you venture down to the Dorset coast and catch Dutch Husband on the right night, then you may well come away thinking you had! But thanks to us you don't have to (though I would recommend going, it has a lovely beach!) as we've brought them here to The Windmill for an ultra-rare London outing. A member down as their bass player is off travelling the world, the band take on classic Massachusetts slacker 3-piece Sebadoh.

HOUR HANDS as BUILT TO SPILL
Hour Hands are from Brighton and always have been - a refreshing, organic, homegrown talent, and a shining beacon in a music scene flooded by well dressed, but ultimately souless, mediocre, production line bands churned out by the music college. If there was any band in the UK to take on the jaunty pop (i'm guessing we'll be looking at Distopian Dream Girl rather than Randy Described Eternity here!) of Boise, Idaho's Built To Spill, then it is Hour Hands. See if you can tell which are covers and which aren't! As the seminal Built To Spill Record is titled 'there's nothing wrong with love'. There's also nothing wrong with covers!

plus, maybe...
SPECIAL GUEST HEADLINER as JONATHAN RICHMAN AND THE MODERN LOVERS!
No lies - it's only 50/50 at this stage whether he can do it or not, but we could well have a very special guest along to perform with an assembly of friends as the last of three Massachusetts bands on the bill, seminal talky-art-rock troupe The Modern Lovers. NB. It's not actually Jonathan Richman.
www.myspace.com/theoriginalmodernlovers

Doors at 4:00pm ... Free BBQ at 4:15pm ... First band on at 5:00pm ... Last band finish at 11:15pm ... Entry : £6 on the door.

Or £5 here : http://www.wegottickets.com/event/33409

This will be incredible!

The Replacements

^^^

Was going to say the Replacements too. How about the Meat Puppets and Camper Van Beethoven?
