Hi All,

So we're doing a bit of research within the DiSopolis at the moment, trying to gather a better view of who we should and shouldn't be partnering with. This week we're re-evaluating physical record stores we should be partnering with.

So, WHERE DO YOU BUY RECORDS? Which store do you use primarily on the internet? Where do you shop in thee real world? i.e. Amazon. Play, Rough Trade, Pennyblackmusic, Norman Records, HMV, Zavvi, etc, etc...

Thank you all, this will be really useful,

I rarely buy instores as they are always overpriced

Usually on the internet;

Ebay
Amazon
Play

internet

play.com and amazon.although if im about town and a cd takes me fancy i cant be bothered to wait for it so il just go aherad and pay 8 quid for it or whatever.never morew than 8 quid.i bought versions by poison the well for 13 quid once in zavvi but i didnt mind cos its a good album but 13 quid is ridiculous

This:

Rough Trade East
Sister Ray
Flashback
Pure Groove
and at gigs

Mostly I'll buy from a real shop over the internet

Banquet Records are my favourites - you shoulod make friends with them.

I haven't bought music from a real-life shop in years

I tend to buy almost exclusively from Amazon Marketplace. Or sometimes directly from the label.

also

I buy 90% of my CDs from Amazon Marketplace
the other 10% from real Amazon or my local second-hand shop or FOPP

I buy 75% of vinyl from eBay, the other 25% from local independent shops

In descending order of importance

Vinyl frontier (my local 2nd hand record shop)
Sounds of the Universe (both online & in person)
eBay
Puregroove
Sister Ray
charity shops
Record label websites (usually Domino & Sub Pop)
HMV & zavvi (for 7"/12"s - both online & in person)

used to buy a lot from Play, cd-wow, amazon marketplace etc. but don't buy cds any more

..

do zavvi even stick 7s anymore?

i can't remember the last time i saw a vinyl single in there..

It's been a while since I went

but I thought they still did on Oxford St. Maybe they have stopped there too. Hull in a handcart, etc.

from

recordstore.co.uk
amazon
ebay
spillers records

amazon marketplace

direct from labels / bands / shows
sister ray

in that order.

^^

this plus Sound 323 / second layer.

.

Amazon marketplace
2 or 3 online shops run by rad doodz
Directly from the band / label
Anywhere i can find what i'm looking for.

I don't really buy in REAL shops anymore. Partly because they never really have what i'm after, and if they do, it's far too $$$$.

yeah

pretty much anything american can be had online cheaper. i pretty much only buy british releases in shops now. and then i'll shop around to find it for under a tenner.

yah

i was in sister ray for the first time a few weeks ago. they had a great American indie section, but then i saw the prices and sighed :[

yeah

and sister ray are pretty good on prices - i got the first Espers album for £8 a few weeks ago. i hate to think what that would be in HMV.

I think it is a pretty poor American indie section.

It was much better when it was Select-A-Disc.

ok, well, i don't know what that is.

i live in the middle of nowhere, so for me, it's the best american indie section i've seen in a shop.

But the point is that they have what you want

and if you have to pay an extra £2 so what? Chances are it's been sourced from a small or foreign distibuter, been sat on the shelf until the right buyer's come along and the shop is in a prime location in London. All these things mean that the price has to be a bit higher than an internet retailer, but you can browse for hours, take your records away on the day and not pay for delivery.

yeah, i get that

..or i could buy directly from the label / band for less...!

all on internet

80% Amazon market place - Caimen if poss
10% itunes (premium only) or 7-digital
5% HMV
5% specialists such as Kompakt

-

Internet: 90% Play.com 10% Amazon or HMV. I have also infrequently got stuff from labels, Burning Shed, Gizeh and BSM

Physical shops: I try and frequent Jumbo records and Crash records in Leeds but I have also been known to get stuff from HMV, especially if they have a sale.

I hardly buy instore now...

unless theres a good sale on.

I mostly use, Amazon marketplace or HMVonline for new releases, and I use lots of different distros and buy directly from the bands themselves.

piccadilly records in manchester

and even if i didn't live there i'd use the website. they ruuuuuuuule.

inless I happen to be near a good record shop, which is pretty rare considering I live in the countryside.

Red Eye (Dubstep 12"

I keep meaning to check out Norman Records.

Direct from labels quite a bit too.
