The Feeling, Scouting for Girls, One Night Only, etc...

What is the name of this 'genre' of music?

I'd quite like to know, so that when it's mentioned I can say 'Ah yes, <genrename>: that really is a pile of horrible, disgusting, twee shit'.

p.s. if there is not set name for it yey, my suggestion is 'C*ntpop'

the genre is

faux-indie

Findie?

utter bobbins.

'indie-landfill'

culled from an article on the independent or somewhere, this morning.

Or I suppose

landfill-indie would work better as the actual genre name.

..

mortgage indie - from same article

Cuntpop. Nice.

Usually 'ITV indie'.

Or

Hollyoaks Indie

Mmm. That works that does

You win £5

Of course its pop

But its a sub-genre. Most indie is pop. Thats like saying the genre is "humans" or something.

Hindie?

Hondie?

Yeah

this is all simply T4 music.

Jopop?

Named after Jo Whiley. She usually bigs this kind of thing up - see also David Gray, Sigur Ros etc etc.

I was going to say

that doesn't really work does it if you're gonna put David Gray with Sigur Ros in what's apparently the same genre..

yeah

i guess Hollyoaks Indie or even TopShop indie is appropriate...

Irk the purists etc

they both write wall-paper advert music for Guadianista's dinner parties. Although Gray probably realises that playing the guitar with a violin bow is a little unnecessary.

Zing!

...zing.

Ah but careful these...

unnecessary things don't become necessary for you to love the music because then you'll only love musicians who do necessary things which just happen to be unnecessary.

I followed that, I think

I'm not sure where it leaves J Mascis' solos, but I'm going to carry on loving Dinosaur Jr regardless.

i second

topshop indie, it makes sense

always referred to it as

Topshop indie, too!
or just vacuous faux indie, chart indie..the list goes on
