I'm so guilty of this.
My Bloody Valentine are a prime example. I listened to 'Only Shallow' (their best song) and immediately bought both of their albums. I think I've listened to them all the way through once each.
More specifically I kid myself I like "Takk" by Sigur Ros - I love all their previous albums.
How 'bout you?
Jay-Z
I wish I actually did like rap :(
The Flaming Lips
sorry I just dont get them.
^ BAM!
That was the sound of you hitting the nail on the head!
agreed
i think i missed something. classic album or sumthing?
i thought this
well i never kidded myself that i liked them, i jsut thought they were bad - i didnt like one song i heard of yoshimi, and then the new one was just like ":|"
but the soft bulletin is just really fucking brilliant. honestly. its really really good.
Nirvana...
I tried to like them, but overrated.
NAH MAN
ALL THE MUSIC I ENJOY BECAUSE I ENJOY. IF I DON'T ENJOY IT I DON'T ENJOY IT. I'M A FREE SPIRIT MAN, UNCHANGED BY THE WINDS OF POPULAR OPINION. I'M A MODERN DAY HERO
PLEASE LIKE ME
:D
but,
takk IS good :(
i'm not sure if i really like pavement or not, i listen to them a fair bit, but they're a bit meh
Johnny Foreigner
I keep listening and buying single after single - embarrassingly, I prefer even Kubichek!
kubichek!
are good. a 9/10 DiS album review says so.
So where's all the wanking?
That's what bothers me, all the wanking...
yup
i too like Kubichek.
stand down sir.
Stop buying them?
There's no law to say you have to like them. I don't.
Oh, I've stopped now
But I feel I gave them more chances than I would've cos a lot of people I respect were going on about them... I'm catching them live soon so maybe I'll fall in love, or something.
leonard cohen
The Jesus And Mary Chain
'Just Like Honey' is the only song I find vaguely listenable I'm afraid.
Sort of with you on MBV. 'Loveless' is very good but hardly one of my all-time favourites. 'Isn't Anything' I rarely feel like listening to. Saw them at the Roundhouse recently - anyone who says they enjoyed the twenty minute drilling at the end is lying.
Give me Slowdive any day!
Man!
Start with 'You Trip Me Up'.
Listen here my man - http://www.last.fm/music/The+Jesus+and+Mary+Chain/_/You+Trip+Me+Up?autostart
i enjoyed it
not lying
as for jesus and mary chain, i guess you either like the fuzz and feedback or you don't.
no age
i dunno i quite like some of their songs. i just dont really want to listen to them very often, and when i do its not that rewarding.
^ ^
this
None
because I'm not a fucking idiot. Loads of people kid themselves into liking MBV though. I wouldn't get too down on myself about it.
MIA
They're cooool and I want in, but still - what the....?
^ MIA is a she
It takes time, but when it clicks it's brilliant. Esecially Kala. Album of last year by miles.
I'm starting to worry how
many people actually genuinely like My Bloody Valebntine now. About 98% of their audiences must be made up of individuals allergic to shoegaze. How depressing.
Good thread!
I think I've finally got this out of my system now, but I used to pretend to myself that I liked loads of bands which I actually didn't.
Probably the most blinding revelation was that I didn't like Radiohead, and never had. I just somehow thought I should like them. Actually if I'm honest, I find them morose, self important and somewhat humourless. Phew! That was a weight off my mind.
all of animal collective's output other than 'Fireworks'
Gutsy.
^ This
Panda Bear - it's just a bit too knowing.
whaat??!
it's good
but i'm obviously too stupid to really like it. i find it a bit emotionless.
Dizzee Rascal
I really can't geet into rap, I only really like the chorus and when he says "baseball bat"... i'm going to see him in a couple weeks! :(
Listening back to him
I think I do kinda like it, but not as much as I think I do... pretty sure that doesn't make any sense
I think I kid myself that I even like music
Cos I hate so much of it

Art Brut
On a lesser level to the Flaming Lips, I never got this band.
Eddie Argos cant sing. Fact.
They couldn't even get onto Top of The Pops!
of course he can't sing
that's the whole point!
2 very good
examples of bands I don't often listen to day to day but who are amazingly uplifting and engaging live. Their records don't do them justice.
Personally, I kidded myself for ages I liked Pink Floyd. They do nothing for me apart from Wish You Were Here being a great folkyoke campfire singalong I find them really self indulgent.
Los Campesinos!
I've been killing myself trying to figure what people see in them.
Johnny Foreigner
I've tried and tried, but no.
A couple of good bits but on the whole I'd rather listen to old Idlewild.
Biffy Clyro.
I just don't get them and it pains me. Well, not really, but I can see why people like their first records but I just don't get it..
Arcade Fire
Ill just keep listening to Power Out and pretend thats their only song. See also The Walkman & The Rat
^^
yes.
A lot of noise/ power electronics stuff
probably amazing live, but I have to force myself to listen to it at home.
-
The Arcade Fire, bleh.
Not a band, but an album...
i LOVE Nick Cave & Bad Seeds but reaaally dont get Dig Lazarus Dig at all, despite repeated listens and trying to kid myself that i like it.
yeah i'm in a similar conundrum,
since the first couple of listens i have never felt any real inclination to listen to dig lazarus dig tbh. like the songs are okkkkk, the production is a bit squeeky clean for my liking.. still a hero though.
KID YOURSELF! LAAAZARUS KID YOURSELF!
ahem
oh man dig lazarus dig is one of my favourites!
album of the year so far for me. He's on top form lyrically and its good to hear him getting a bit noisy
Dig Lazarus Dig
is a cracking album!
What are you on about.
Honestly.
Hmmm
Oh its ok, but I LOVED ‘Abbatoir Blues / Lyre of Orpheus’ and his other records. In comparison ‘Dig Lazarus’ sounds forced and very weak. Like he’s trying too hard to be a bit clever.
Yeah
but he gets away with it because he has a hench moustache!
Let Love In/Boatmans Call are my all time faves.
Radiohead
I know I should like them, I'm merely too lazy to listen to all their albums from the start until I can actually get past the phase of not "getting them" and actually enjoy the music.
It took me a few weeks to get into bands like No Age and Arcade Fire but now I really do love both (Arcade Fire a lot more however). It's just down to me being musically lazy.
but but but all
the crazy kids dig The Radio Heads!
...
Interpol. There, I said it.
^this
I don't mind them, but the only album i really enjoy listening to is our love to admire.
nick cave
Sigur Ros for me
maybe I just like tunes too much. Or if there's no tunes, then I generally like it to last no longer than a couple of minutes.
And I’ve seen him walk through the park a lot,
And I bet he listens to Arc a lot
I think we’d better let him in
He’s got a Theremin
Burial
.
I'll go for
Ladytron - liked them less and less with every album.
and
Fuck Buttons - I tried, but it's just so dull, live and on record.
The National
I dont understand what im suppose to like about them, Boxer is a total snooze fest
Lightning Bolt
Despite trying to be hip, they never happened for me.
/\ Me too /\
Its just noise!
lol
yeah
Woah, let's not get carried away now.
---
public enemy
i liked them at first but not so much anymore
The Rolling Stones
I thought I really should like the Stones and made an effort and got all the obvious ones like Beggars Banquet and Exile On Main Street and listened to them and they're great and all that, but I'd not care if I never heard them again.
i 100% agree
I did the same thing and bought about 10 of their classic albums but I just can't get into it though I think I should.
My other admission is I own pretty much all Nick Caves solo and Birthday Party albums and only very rarely now and then does it actually connect
pretty much every band I've ever played in
or that a friend has played in
oh friends bands
is there anyway to let them know nicely they are not the next Blur?
:(
sadly there isn't elasticman, sadly there isn't. that pain is something we must live with. fuck me, those last two posts could be a thread in themselves.
Nirvana
They bore me
Pink Floyd
I tried to like Dark Side Of The Moon, but i just couldnt. Apart from the odd track or two.
The Radio Heads
Im hoping one day
it'll kick in and i'll love led zeppelin but they leave me compleletly cold
