Its all about.....

Fightstar these days innnit.

Not important maybe

but they made some damn good pop songs. As guitar music infiltrating mainstream pop I find them considerably more interesting than the boybands that came before them and the mainstream indie pap (Pigeon Detectives, Scouting For Girls etc.) that has taken over since. Ditto McFly. Their new album is a giveaway in one of the papers today so I guess that ship has sailed.

Can someone please explain newspaper giveaways to me?

I don't understand why they do it - I know that more people will probably get to hear it, but surely they don't make as much money off it as if it was released properly, plus, most McFly fans are probably teens/pre-teens who don't buy newspapers, and if they miss today's paper, they'll miss out on getting the album. I don't see the logic in it...

It's to get people to the live dates

especially if they don't have a label now, and won't have to split gig money with them - it could be a really lucrative idea.

Plus

There's an element of marketing it to the kids to get their parents to buy the paper. Marketing people have a fancy word for it, like putting sweets next to the checkout at the supermarket.

The kid dollar: That's a good dollar

As Bill Hicks would have it.

they probably will make more money this way

because their market (derr kiddies) are very unlikely to buy the album nowadays. They get far more cash by agreeing a deal with The Mail, even though most of the people who get it won't want it

Oh easily.

If not the most important band EVER.

you have a case

certainly the most important "gateway" band of the last decade,

^^

seriously

would the current mainstream music scene be how it is without Busted? would there be so many boy bands in that sense of the word now without them. i remember a pre Brits show in 2004 I think and Busted were nomintated for loads, the Kerrang editor was on there saying how the Darkness should win everything, the presenter at the time asked 'but do you think people will listen to Busted and then move on to other guitar music?'

on a personal level I know my sister was in to the standard pop before them, bit of mainstream RnB and stuff, now she;s into bands like Paramore and general 'indie' bands.

Now obviously we can say the Strokes started it all, and we wouldn't have bands like the Arctic Monkeys without the Strokes...but the late teens now weren't listening to the Strokes back then...i'm not saying Busted inspired any bands, but their success certainly helped 'indie bands' reach the level of success they have today.

and 3am. tune.
