bang your drum - the bit of the song where spencer sings "take a dive" is an album highlight. Also the acapella "la la la" bits are wicked.
grey estates - For me the driving pace and mood of the song work really well with the lyrics and what comes across to me is this really optimistic sense of motion; of leaving trouble behind and moving on to something positive, the lyrics about passing the grey estates perfectly echoing the mood of the music.
is quality (the "I am amazed at how they go" bit).
Also, the drummer's drumming IN A DIFFERENT TIME SIGNATURE to the rest of the band (mental) and it makes the groove sound really cool; especially the bit when the chord first changes for the "call it a ritual" chant.
It really has more hidden depth than that. I was underwhelmed the first couple of times I listened through to it, but eventually it reveals it's loveliness, there are so many melodies and countermelodies, byoodiful tones going all over the place, thoughtful structure...
when I said Zoomer "is a great album without great songs" I might have been talking literary bollocks...but this thread makes me think I called it right.
Soldiers grin
boooooooooooooooooooring
And I love the rest of the album to bits :)
nah man.
the groove is sick and when it goes half time it's like "woah"!
Also,
the chord sequence when dan first starts singing is mega-fantastic.
^ *at least one reason
I wouldn't say it's boring...
But it is the weakest song on the album by quite a fair margin - not bad, but just not that gripping. Strange, strange choice to start the album...
I love the album
but i'll play devils advocate and give you the two worst songs;
Bang Your Drum
The Grey Estates
KIND REGARDS
bang your drum
is like a not very good sunset rubdown song.
The Grey estates is amazingly pop and I absolutely love it!
ok.

*deep breaths*
Oh wait,
I forgot easily the worst song, the only skippable one IMO - Call it A Ritual.
It's ok in the context of the rest of the album but as a standalone song its a bit meh

two words
marquee moon
sorry what?
It's really not that good
Totally average record on first couple of listens.
^
the definitive review guys
Nope.
yeah that was my point
ah well
oh right. sorry.
:)
It takes many many listens
I don't think so
I mean, it's not exactly difficult or challenging is it? It's a pretty bog standard, fairly dull, indie rock record.

^^^ This
It's duuuuuuuuuuuull.
I like this album
But apologies is better
just by a bit.
...in my opinion
obvs.
aye
I really enjoy it minus bang your drum and soldiers grin.
But liked every song from the first.
great band!
Take On Me?
Am I the only one who thinks this
album is not even nearly as good as Apologies to the Queen Mary and is a little bit disappointed by it..?
it's thread like this
that make we want to punch myself in the plums for continuing to come on this forum.
or you could say a song you don't like from the album...
I thought maybe
when I said Zoomer "is a great album without great songs" I might have been talking literary bollocks...but this thread makes me think I called it right.
Carry on. :)
nope. e.g. Language City.
GREAT SONG.
between us Tim
I went back and amended statement to "not many great songs" because of Language City. So there you go. :)
